Benefits & Rulings:
A Muslim—man or woman—should never be heedless of the remembrance of Allah under any circumstances (except in places like the toilet). Whether one is in a state of ablution (wudhu) or without it, pure or in a state of major impurity (janabah), they should remain mindful of Allah’s dhikr.
The Qur’an is also a form of dhikr, but reciting it while in a state of janabah is impermissible. Women should also maintain regular dhikr during their menstruation periods. However, regarding the recitation of the Qur’an during these days, there is a difference of opinion among scholars.
In light of the aforementioned hadith, Imam Malik, Al-Tabari, Ibn al-Mundhir, Dawood, and Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on them) are inclined towards the view that it is permissible and allowed. This is especially important for women who have memorized the Qur’an or are involved in teaching or studying Islamic sciences, as a complete break from Qur’anic recitation would be quite obstructive for them. On the other hand, janabah is a temporary state that can be easily resolved.
It has also been reported from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he saw no harm in reciting the Qur’an even while in a state of janabah.
