Hazrat Qais narrates that Abu Ubaid bin Mas’ud crossed the river Euphrates to go towards Mehran. After they had crossed, the enemies broke the bridge and martyred him and his companions. On this occasion, Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered Abu Mihjan to compose verses in his memory, and he recited verses whose translation is as follows:“The house of Abu Jabr has become desolate and there are hungry widows there. Near the bridge, the Banu Amr are lying helpless on the banks. I am the last among the survivors and the righteous people have been martyred with me. The blood of my horse was shed, and it was shed so much that its blood was on every common and special path.”
