Benefits & Rulings:
➊ The primary purpose of the sermon is to point out mistakes and warn against their harmful consequences. Therefore, it is essential that sermons address public errors according to the situation and guide people toward the correct path.
➋ Depending on the topic, adopting an emotional tone in a sermon is also appropriate.
➌ The summary of the Straight Path is the adherence to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
➍ During the sermon, pointing with the index finger is a Sunnah, and using appropriate gestures to clarify something is also acceptable.
➎ The mention of the closeness of the Hour (Day of Judgment) also signifies that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the last Prophet. Just as there is no finger between the middle and index fingers, likewise, there will be no new Prophet between the Prophet ﷺ and the Day of Judgment. However, the descent of Prophet Isa (Jesus) عليه السلام from the heavens does not contradict the finality of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, because Prophet Isa had already been granted prophethood and will act according to the Shariah of Muhammad ﷺ.
➏ The nearness of the Day of Judgment serves as a reminder for the members of this Ummah not to become engrossed in worldly affairs and neglect the Hereafter. Rather, they should prepare for the afterlife with greater concern.
➐ Dividing innovation (bid‘ah) into “good” and “bad” is incorrect. One should avoid all forms of innovation in religious matters.
➑ The inheritance of a deceased person must be distributed among the heirs according to the principles outlined in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Rulers have no right to alter these laws. Instead, it is their duty to ensure that each heir receives their due share as prescribed.
➒ Caring for the destitute and those without heirs is the responsibility of an Islamic government. Likewise, if a person dies in debt and does not leave enough wealth to repay it, it is the duty of the Islamic government to settle the debt from the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal) and to meet the legitimate needs of the deceased’s dependents.
