It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of the best deed in the sight of your Lord, which raises you to the highest ranks, which is better for you than spending gold and silver, and better than meeting your enemy in the battlefield so that you strike their necks and they strike your necks?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What is that deed?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The remembrance of Allah."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a woman outside a tent who was near the time of childbirth. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It seems that her master wants to go 'near' her?" The people said, "Yes!" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "My heart wishes to curse him with such a curse that will remain with him till his grave. How can he make her his heir when she is not lawful for him, and how can he take service from her when she is not lawful for him?"

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the companions (may Allah be pleased with them): "Are you incapable of reciting one third of the Qur'an in a single night?" This seemed very difficult to the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and they said, "Who would have the strength to do that?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Recite Surah Ikhlas, for it is equal to one third of the Qur'an."

Abdullah bin Yazid says that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) about the lizard, and he declared it disliked. I said to him, "Your people eat it?" He replied, "Perhaps they do not know." At this, a man present there said, "I heard this hadith from Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade every animal obtained by looting, that which is snatched, or every predator that hunts with its canine teeth." Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) affirmed this.

Safwan bin Abdullah, whose wife was Darda, says: Once I came to Syria and visited Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him), but he was not at home; however, his wife was present. She asked me, "Do you intend to perform Hajj this year?" I replied in the affirmative. She said, "Pray for good for us as well, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say that when a Muslim prays for his brother in his absence, that prayer is accepted, and an angel is appointed at his head for this purpose. Whenever he prays for good for his brother, the angel says 'Ameen' to it and says, 'May you also have the same.'" Then I went to the market and met Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) as well. He also said the same thing to me and narrated the same hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Yazid ibn Harun and Ya'la narrated to us, they said: 'Abd al-Malik narrated to us from Abu al-Zubayr from Safwan. Yazid ibn 'Abd Allah said: and he mentioned it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to him. He asked, "Are you a resident so that we may treat you well, or are you a traveler so that we may provide you provisions for the journey?" He replied, "I am a traveler." He said, "I will give you such a provision for the journey that if I had found anything better than it, I would have given you that. Once I presented myself before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, 'O Messenger of Allah! The wealthy have taken both this world and the Hereafter. We also pray and so do they; we also fast and so do they. However, they give charity and we cannot give charity.' The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Shall I not tell you something that if you act upon it, no one before you will surpass you, and no one after you will catch up with you, except someone who does the same as you? After every prayer, say Subhan Allah thirty-three times, Alhamdulillah thirty-three times, and Allahu Akbar thirty-four times.'"

Ma'dan bin Abi Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that once Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me, "Where do you reside?" I replied, "In a village behind Hims." He said, "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'In any village where there are three men and neither the call to prayer nor the establishment of prayer is observed, Satan overcomes them. Therefore, adhere to the congregation of Muslims, for the wolf devours the solitary sheep.'"

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
