Hadith of Abu Mas'ud Uqbah ibn Amr al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith Number: 22348
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delivered a sermon before us, and after praising and glorifying Allah, he said: "Some of you are hypocrites, so whoever's name I mention should stand up." Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to a man, "O so-and-so! Stand up." In this way, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned the names of 36 men. Then he said, "These people were among you, so fear Allah." Shortly after, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by a man who had covered his face, and he was among those whose names the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had mentioned, and Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) recognized him. He asked him, "What happened to you?" He replied, "The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said this today." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Go away."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us while we were in the gathering of Hazrat Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Bashir bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah,“O Messenger of Allah! Allah Almighty has commanded us to send blessings upon you. How should we send blessings upon you?”The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for so long that we wished we had not asked this question. Then he said,“Say: ‘O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim, and bless Muhammad as You blessed the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.’ And as for the words of salam (peace), you already know them.”

Imam Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once we were with Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him. He delayed the Asr prayer, so Urwah bin Zubair, may Allah have mercy on him, came to him and said that once in Kufa, Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah, may Allah be pleased with him, also delayed the Asr prayer. Then Hazrat Abu Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him,“What is this, Mughirah! Do you not know that once Hazrat Jibreel, peace be upon him, descended and he offered the prayer, and the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also offered the prayer at that time? In this way, for all five prayers, he came and fixed the time. Then the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, ‘I have been commanded to do this.’”Upon hearing this hadith, Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him, said,“Urwah! Speak thoughtfully, did Jibreel, peace be upon him, fix the time of the prayer?”Hazrat Urwah, may Allah have mercy on him, replied,“Yes! Basheer bin Abi Mas’ud narrated this hadith to me in this way.”
