City-Dwellers Selling for Villagers During Famine

٢٢١٦٣ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة عن الزهري عن سعيد عن ابي هريرة يبلغ به النبي ﷺ قال:"لا (يبع) (١) حاضر لباد" (٢).

(١) في [أ، ب، ح، ط، هـ]: (يبيع).
(٢) صحيح؛ أخرجه البخاري (٢١٤٠)، ومسلم (١٥٢٠).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not permissible for a townsman to sell on behalf of a villager.

٢٢١٦٤ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة عن ابي الزبير سمع جابرا يقول: قال (١) رسول الله ﷺ:"لا يبيع حاضر لباد، (دعوا) (٢) الناس يرزق الله بعضهم من بعض" (٣).

(١) في [أ، ح، ز]: زيادة (قال).
(٢) في [أ، ح، هـ]: (دع).
(٣) صحيح؛ أخرجه مسلم (١٥٢٢)، وأحمد (١٤٢٩١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A townsman should not sell on behalf of a villager; leave people alone, Allah Almighty provides sustenance to some of you through others.

٢٢١٦٥ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا شبابة عن ابن ابي ذئب قال: حدثني مسلم (الخياط) (١) عن ابن عمر قال: نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن بيع حاضر لباد (٢).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) في [ز]: (الخباط).
(٢) صحيح؛ أخرجه أحمد (٥٠١٥)، والطيالسي (١٩٣٠)، والطحاوي (٤/ ٨)، وأصله عند البخاري (٢١٥٩).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale of a townsman on behalf of a villager.

٢٢١٦٦ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابو داود عن ابي حرة عن الحسن انه كان لا يرى باسا ان يشتري من الاعرابي (للاعرابي) (١) قال: فقيل له: فيشتري منه للمهاجر؟ قال: لا.

(١) في [جـ، ط، و]: (الأعرابي).
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) did not see any harm in a villager buying from another villager. He (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked whether a Muhajir could buy from him? He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: No.

(١) في [ز]: (الخباط)، وزاد في [هـ]: بعدها (أنه).
(٢) صحيح.
Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) states that it has been prohibited for a townsman to sell on behalf of a villager, and Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) (may Allah have mercy on him) states that a townsman should not sell on behalf of a villager.

٢٢١٦٨ - وسمع عمر يقول: لا يبيع حاضر لباد (١).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) صحيح؛ ومسلم ثقة وقد صرح بالسماع من عمر؛ وهو هكذا في المحلى ٨/ ٤٥٤، ويحتمل أن المراد (ابن عمر) وأنه سقط من النسخ (ابن)، كما في التاريخ الكبير ٧/ ٢٦٠.
22168 - And Umar was heard saying: "A townsman must not sell for a Bedouin." (1).

٢٢١٦٩ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا جرير عن منصور عن إبراهيم (عن إبي هريرة) (١) عن النبي ﵇ قال:"لا يبيع حاضر لباد" (٢) (٣).

(١) سقط من: [ط].
(٢) تكرر الخبر في: [جـ].
(٣) منقطع؛ إبراهيم لم يدرك أبا هريرة، أخرجه أحمد (٩٤٥٦)، وانظر: ما سبق برقم [٢٢١٦٣].
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A townsman should not sell for a villager.

٢٢١٧٠ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة عن ابن ابي نجيح عن مجاهد قال: ليس به باس اليوم إنما اراد النبي ﷺ ان يصيب الناس غرة اهل البادية لما قدم المدينة.
Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that nowadays there is no harm in doing so; indeed, the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade it so that when villagers came to Madinah, people would not take undue advantage of their simplicity. Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that even nowadays, this is not right and correct.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a townsman should not sell on behalf of a villager.
