On Licking the Fingers

٢٦٠٤٠ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابو معاوية عن الاعمش عن ابي سفيان عن جابر قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"إذا طعم احدكم فلا يمسح يده حتى (يمصها) (١) فإنه ⦗٤٢١⦘ لا يدري في اي طعامه يبارك فيه" (٢).

(٢) حسن؛ أبو سفيان صدوق، أخرجه مسلم (٢٠٣٣)، وأحمد (١٥٢٢٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When any of you eats food, he should not clean his fingers until he has licked them, for he does not know in which part of the food the blessing has been placed for him."

٢٦٠٤١ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة عن عمرو عن عطاء عن ابن عباس قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"إذا اكل احدكم (طعاما) (١) فلا يمسحها حتى يلعقها او يلعقها" (٢).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) في [أ، ح، ط، هـ]: (طعامه).
(٢) صحيح؛ أخرجه البخاري (٥٤٥٦)، ومسلم (٢٠٣١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any of you eats food, he should not clean his fingers until he has licked them or had them licked."

٢٦٠٤٢ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا سويد بن عمرو قال: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت عن انس قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا اكل لعق اصابعه الثلاث وقال: امرنا رسول الله ﷺ ان (نسلت) (١) الصحفة، وقال:"إن احدكم لا يدري في اي طعامه يبارك له فيه" (٢).

(١) في [ط]: (لسملت).
(٢) صحيح؛ أخرجه مسلم (٢٠٣٤)، وأحمد (١٢٨١٥)، وأبو داود (٣٨٤٥).
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas. He says that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ate food, he, peace and blessings be upon him, would lick his three fingers. Hazrat Anas says: He, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded us to clean the bowl, and he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "None of you knows in which part of the food the blessing has been placed for him."

٢٦٠٤٣ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن مهدي عن سفيان عن سعد بن إبراهيم عن عبد الرحمن (بن كعب) (١) بن مالك عن ابيه قال: رايت النبي ﷺ لعق اصابعه الثلاث من الطعام (٢).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) سقط من: [ط].
(٢) صحيح؛ أخرجه مسلم (٢٠٣٢)، وأحمد (١٥٧٦٧).
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ka'b bin Mubarak narrates from his father. He says that I saw the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) licking his three fingers after eating.

٢٦٠٤٤ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا جرير عن منصور عن سالم عن عطاء قال: قال عمر: لا يصلح لمسلم إذا اكل طعاما ان يمنح يده حتى يلعقها او يلعقها (١).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) منقطع؛ عطاء لا يروي عن عمر.
It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that he says Hazrat Umar stated: It is not better for any Muslim that when he eats food, he should clean his hand until he has licked it or had it licked.

٢٦٠٤٥ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا هشيم قال: (اخبرنا) (١) حصين عن مجاهد قال: ما رايت ابن عمر يتوضا من طعام قط، وكان يلعق اصابعه الثلاث (ثم) (٢) يمسح يده بالتراب (٣).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) في [ز]: (أنبأنا).
(٢) سقط من: [ز].
(٣) صحيح.
It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that he said: I never saw Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) performing ablution after eating food. Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to lick his fingers after eating, then clean his hand with soil.

٢٦٠٤٦ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير عن إسماعيل بن (عبد الملك) (١) عن عطاء قال: (كانوا) (٢) اصحاب رسول الله ﷺ إذا قرب الطعام (لم يمسحوا) (٣) ايديهم حتى ينقوها باللعق (٤).

(١) في [ح]: (عبد اللَّه).
(٢) في [جـ]: (كان).
(٣) في [جـ، ز]: (لا يمسحون).
(٤) صحيح.
It is narrated from Hazrat Ata that he says: When food was brought to the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, they would not clean their hands until they had licked their fingers.

٢٦٠٤٧ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة قال: قلت لعبيد الله بن ابي يزيد: كنت تشهد طعام ابن عباس؟ قال: نعم، قلت: فاي شيء كنت تراه يصنع؟ قال: كنت اراه يلعق اصابعه الثلاث (١).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) صحيح.
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Uyaynah. He says that I asked Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Abi Yazid: Did you attend the meals of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them)? He said: Yes. I asked: What did you see him do? Hazrat Ubaidullah said: I used to see him licking his three fingers.

٢٦٠٤٨ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن عيينة عن ابي الزبير عن جابر ان النبي ﷺ امر بلعق الاصابع (والصحفة) (١) (و) (٢) قال:"إنكم لا تدرون في اي طعامكم البركة" (٣).

(٣) صحيح؛ أخرجه مسلم (٢٠٣٣) (١٣٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded to lick the fingers and the bowl, and said: "You do not know in which part of the food the blessing lies."

٢٦٠٤٩ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن فضيل عن الاعمش عن ابي صالح وابي سفيان عن جابر قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"إذا فرغ احدكم من طعامه فليلعق اصابعه فإنه لا يدري (في) (١) اي طعامه يبارك له (فيه) (٢)" (٣).

(١) سقط من: [هـ].
(٢) سقط من: [جـ، ز].
(٣) صحيح لغيره، أخرجه مسلم (٢٠٣٣) (١٣٥)، وأحمد (١٤٣٩٠).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir. He says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When any one of you finishes eating, he should lick his fingers, because he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies for him."
