Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates regarding the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded that every city-dweller and villager, young and old, free and slave, should give one sa’ of dates, one sa’ of barley, or two mudd of wheat as Sadaqat al-Fitr.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sadaqat al-Fitr will be one sa’ of dates, one sa’ of barley, or two mudd of wheat, and it will be given on behalf of every young and old, free and slave."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made the charity of Ramadan obligatory upon every male and female, free and slave, which is one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of grain.

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged every person to give the charity of Ramadan (i.e., Sadaqat al-Fitr), which will be one sa’ of dates, or one sa’ of barley, or one sa’ of wheat. One of the narrators of this narration, Bakr bin Aswad, is not strong.

Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: We have been commanded to give the charity of Ramadan (i.e., Sadaqat al-Fitr) on behalf of every young and old, free and slave, one sa’ of grain. Whoever gives wheat, it will be accepted from him; whoever gives barley, it will be accepted from him; whoever gives raisins, it will be accepted from him; whoever gives wheat, it will be accepted from him. The narrator says: I think these words are also in the narration: "Whoever gives flour, it will be accepted from him, and whoever gives roasted barley, it will be accepted from him."

Kathir bin Abdullah narrates from his father, from his grandfather: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) made the payment of Sadaqat al-Fitr obligatory upon every small and great, male and female, slave and free person, which will be one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of grain, or one sa’ of raisins, or one sa’ of barley, or one sa’ of cheese.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the payment of one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of wheat as zakat al-fitr. The narrator also reported these words:“This is obligatory upon every free and slave, male and female Muslim.”

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) instructed Amr bin Hazm regarding Zakat al-Fitr to collect half a sa’ of wheat or one sa’ of dates.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), people used to give one sa’ of barley, or one sa’ of dates, or one sa’ of wheat, or one sa’ of raisins as Sadaqat al-Fitr. When the era of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, wheat became more abundant, so he fixed half a sa’ of wheat in place of all those things.

This same narration is transmitted with some other chains as well. In one narration, these words are mentioned: People mentioned the charity of Fitr in front of him, so he said: "I will give the same charity of Fitr that I used to give during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him); that is, one sa’ of dates, one sa’ of raisins, one sa’ of wheat, or one sa’ of barley, or one sa’ of cheese." A person from his tribe said to him: "Or two mudd of wheat or flour." So Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "No! This is the price fixed by Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him); I will not accept it nor will I act upon it."
