Zuhri narrates from Abu Su’eer, from his father, who said: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:“Give one sa’ of wheat as zakat al-fitr on behalf of every person, whether young or old, free or slave, male or female. As for the wealthy, Allah will purify them, and as for the poor, Allah will give them more than what they have given.”

This narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission.

Al-Zuhri narrates from Abdullah bin Thalabah, from his father, who said: Once, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered a sermon and ordered that a sa’ of dates or a sa’ of barley be given as zakat al-fitr on behalf of every small and great, free and slave. It is to be given on behalf of every person (the narrator is doubtful about some words here).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Giving Sadaqat al-Fitr is obligatory upon every wealthy and poor person. The narrator states: This narration was related to me from Zuhri.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Thalabah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon one or two days before Eid, and he said: "In Sadaqat al-Fitr, two mudd of wheat will be given on behalf of every person, or one sa’ of any other type of grain will be given."

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered the payment of Sadaqat al-Fitr. He said: It will be one sa’ of dates, or one sa’ of barley, or one sa’ of wheat, or one sa’ of raisins.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said regarding Sadaqat al-Fitr: "It shall be given on behalf of every young and old, free and slave, which will be half a sa’ of wheat or one sa’ of dates." The narrator has transmitted it as a marfu’ (attributed) hadith in this manner.

This same narration is transmitted with another chain as a mawquf narration, and this is correct.

Asma bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) regarding Zakat al-Fitr: "It will be two sa’ of wheat, or one sa’ of barley, or one sa’ of dates, or one sa’ of raisins. Whoever does not have cheese, but has milk, then he will give a sa’ of milk."

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The payment of Sadaqat al-Fitr is obligatory upon every free and enslaved person, male and female, young and old, poor and rich; it will be one sa’ of dates or half a sa’ of wheat. The narrator states: Zuhri has transmitted this narration as a marfu’ (attributed to the Prophet) hadith.
