Sayyiduna Umar and Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) considered maintenance and residence obligatory for a woman who had been given three divorces. And whenever Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard the narration of Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had ordered her to observe her waiting period somewhere other than her husband's house, he would say: "We do not accept the testimony of a single woman in our religion." Sa'id says: We prefer the statement of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) more.
