Hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith Number: 19741
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once some Ash'ari people came to me and said, "Come with us to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we have some work with him." I went with them, and there they asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for a position. I apologized to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding their request and said that I had no knowledge of their need. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) affirmed my statement and accepted my excuse, and said, "We do not give any position to a person who asks us for it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me towards Yemen. I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) There are some drinks prevalent there, for example, there is a barley-based nabidh called 'mizr' and a honey-based nabidh called 'tuba'." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every intoxicating thing is forbidden."

The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "The stings of your enemy jinn, and in both cases there is martyrdom." The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.

Be gentle with yourselves. You are not calling upon a deaf or absent Allah. You are calling upon the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, who is closer to you than the neck of your mount. O Abdullah bin Qais, shall I not tell you about one of the treasures of Paradise?" I said, "Why not?" He said, "'La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (is one of the treasures of Paradise)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that we presented ourselves before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We requested animals for riding from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Allah! I cannot mount you, for I have nothing to mount you on." We waited for a while, "as long as Allah willed," then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered for three camels with bright foreheads for us. When we were about to return, one of us said to the other, "We had come to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a request for riding animals, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sworn that he would not give us riding animals. Let us go back so that we may remind the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of his oath." So we again presented ourselves before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we had come to you with a request for riding animals, and you had sworn that you would not give us riding animals, yet you gave us animals?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I did not mount you, rather Allah Almighty did. By Allah! If Allah wills, whenever I take an oath and see something better in another thing, I will choose that and offer expiation for my oath."
