Tawoos reports that once Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) came, so Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) questioned him inquisitively, "How did you tell me that a gift was presented to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while he was in the state of Ihram?" He replied, "Yes! A man presented a portion of hunted game as a gift to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), but the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not accept it and said, 'We cannot eat it because we are in the state of Ihram.'"

Atiyyah Awfi says that once I presented myself before Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him that one of my sons-in-law has narrated to me the hadith regarding the excellence of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) on the occasion of Ghadir Khumm, attributing it to you. I wish to hear it directly from you. He replied, "O people of Iraq! I fear from you." I said, "You need not worry about me." He said, "Alright, once we were at the place of Juhfa at the time of Zuhr, when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us holding the hand of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, 'O people! Do you not know that I have more right over the believers than their own selves?' The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, 'Why not.' Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pressed the hand of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, 'Whoever I am the beloved of, Ali should also be his beloved.' I asked, 'Did the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say, O Allah! Love those who love Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and be the enemy of those who are hostile to him?'
It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the early period of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to recite (that which was later abrogated): If the son of Adam were to possess two valleys of gold and silver, he would desire a third one, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust. However, whoever repents, Allah turns towards him.
