What is reported about sacrificial animals
Hadith Number: 903
حدثنا هارون بن إسحاق ، قال: ثنا سفيان ، عن عبد الرحمن بن القاسم ، عن ابيه ، عن عائشة رضي الله عنها، ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم" كان يضحي عن نسائه البقر" .
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to offer a cow as sacrifice on behalf of his wives.

Hadith Number: 904
حدثنا الحسن بن محمد الزعفراني ، قال: ثنا شبابة ، قال: ثنا زهير ، عن ابي الزبير ، عن جابر رضي الله عنه، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " لا تذبحوا إلا مسنة، إلا ان يعسر عليكم، فتذبحوا جذعة من الضان" .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not slaughter any animal except a musinnah (one with permanent teeth), but if it becomes difficult to find, then slaughter a one-year-old lamb.

Hadith Number: 905
اخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد الحكم ، ان ابن وهب ، اخبرهم قال: اني عمرو بن الحارث ، ان بكير بن عبد الله بن الاشج ، حدثه ان معاذ بن عبد الله بن خبيب الجهني ، حدثه، عن عقبة بن عامر الجهني ، قال: " ضحينا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بالجذع من الضان" .
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we sacrificed a one-year-old lamb in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Hadith Number: 906
حدثنا علي بن خشرم ، قال: انا ابو بكر بن عياش ، ح وثنا محمد بن هشام ، قال: ثنا ابو بكر ، عن ابي إسحاق ، عن شريح بن النعمان الهمداني ، ان عليا رضي الله عنه، قال: وقال ابن هشام ، عن علي بن ابي طالب رضي الله عنه، قال:" نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ان نضحي بمقابلة، او مدابرة، او شرقاء، او خرقاء، او جدعاء .
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade us from sacrificing such an animal whose ear is cut from the front, or cut from the back, cut lengthwise, or cut in a circular manner, or whose nose is cut.
تخریج الحدیث: از غلام مصطفےٰ ظهير امن پوري: «إسناده ضعيف: مسند الإمام أحمد: 1/80-108، سنن أبي داود: 2804، سنن النسائي: 4377، سنن الترمذي: 1498، سنن ابن ماجه: 3142، اس حدیث کو امام ترمذی رحمہ اللہ نے حسن صحیح، امام حاکم رحمہ اللہ (4/224) نے صحیح کہا ہے، حافظ ذہبی رحمہ اللہ نے ان کی موافقت کی ہے۔ ابواسحاق ”مدلس“ ہیں، سماع کی تصریح نہیں کی، امام دارقطنی رحمہ اللہ فرماتے ہیں: وَلَمْ يَسْمَعْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ مِنْ شُرَيْح. (العلل: 3/238)۔ المستدرک للحاکم (4/224) میں ابن اشوع کا واسطہ گر گیا ہے، لیکن وہ سند قیس بن ربیع ضعیف عند الجمہور کی وجہ سے ”ضعیف“ ہے۔»
Hadith Number: 907
حدثنا علي بن خشرم ، قال: انا عيسى ، عن شعبة ، عن سليمان بن عبد الرحمن مولى بني اسد، قال: سمعت عبيد بن فيروز رجلا من بني شيبان، قال: سالت البراء بن عازب رضي الله عنهما ما ذكره النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من الاضاحي، او ماذا نهى عنه؟، قال: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: " اربع لا تجزئ، ويدي اقصر من يده: العوراء البين عورها، والعرجاء البين ضلعها، والمريضة البين مرضها، والكسير التي لا تنقي، قلت: فإني اكره ان يكون في السن نقص او في القرن او في الاذن نقص، قال: فما كرهت فدعه ولا تحرمه على احد" .
Ubaid bin Firoz (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Sayyiduna Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with both of them): Which sacrificial animal did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) dislike? Or which kind of sacrifice did he forbid? He replied: My hand is smaller than the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Four types of animals are not sufficient: the one-eyed animal whose defect is obvious; the lame animal whose lameness is completely evident; the sick animal whose sickness is apparent; the emaciated animal whose bones have no marrow. I said: I also dislike defects in the teeth, horns, and ears. So he (Sayyiduna Bara bin Azib, may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: Leave what you dislike, but do not declare it forbidden for anyone.
تخریج الحدیث: از غلام مصطفےٰ ظهير امن پوري: «إسناده صحيح: مسند الإمام أحمد: 4/284، سنن أبي داود: 2802، سنن النسائي: 4374، سنن الترمذي: 1497، سنن ابن ماجه: 3144، اس حدیث کو امام ترمذی رحمہ اللہ نے حسن صحیح، امام ابن خزیمہ رحمہ اللہ (2912) امام ابن حبان رحمہ اللہ (5919، 5922) اور امام حاکم رحمہ اللہ (1/467، 468) نے صحیح کہا ہے، حافظ ذہبی رحمہ اللہ نے ان کی موافقت کی ہے۔»
Hadith Number: 908
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى ، قال: ثنا يزيد بن هارون ، قال: انا داود بن علي ، عن الشعبي ، عن البراء بن عازب رضي الله عنهما، ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " لا يذبحن احد قبل ان يصلي، قال: فقام إليه خالي ابو بردة بن نيار، فقال: يا رسول الله، هذا يوم اللحم فيه كثير، وإني ذبحت نسيكتي لياكل منها اهلي وجيراني، وعندي عناق خير من شاتي لحم، افاذبحها؟، قال: نعم، ولا تجزئ جذعة عن احد بعدك، وهي خير نسيكتيك" .
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: No one should slaughter an animal (for sacrifice) before the (Eid) prayer. Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says: My uncle Abu Burdah bin Niyar stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! On this day there is a lot of meat, I have already slaughtered my sacrifice so that my neighbors and family may eat from it. I have a one-year-old goat, which is better than two goats with more meat. Should I slaughter it (as a sacrifice)? He said: Yes! But after you, it will not suffice for anyone, and it is better for you than two sacrifices.

Hadith Number: 909
حدثنا علي بن خشرم ، قال: انا عيسى ، عن شعبة ، عن قتادة ، قال: سمعت انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه، يقول: فقلت: انت سمعته؟ فقال: نعم،" كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يضحي بكبشين املحين اقرنين، ويسمي ويكبر، ولقد رايتهما يذبحهما بيده واضعا على صفاحهما قدمه" .
Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I heard Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate, so I asked him: Did you hear this yourself (from the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم )? He replied: Yes! The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم used to sacrifice two horned, black and white rams, and he would say“Bismillah, Allahu Akbar.”I saw that he was slaughtering them with his blessed hand and had his blessed foot placed upon them.

باب ما جاء في العقيقة
What is reported about ‘aqiqah (birth sacrifice)
Hadith Number: 910
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى ، قال: ثنا يزيد بن هارون ، قال: اخبرنا شعبة ، عن قتادة ، عن الحسن ، عن سمرة بن جندب رضي الله عنه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " كل غلام مرتهن بعقيقته، يذبح عنه يوم السابع، ويحلق راسه ويسمى" .
Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub رضي الله عنه reports that the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Every child is held in pledge for his ‘aqiqah; on the seventh day, an animal should be sacrificed on his behalf, his head should be shaved, and he should be named.
تخریج الحدیث: از غلام مصطفےٰ ظهير امن پوري: «صحيح: مسند الإمام أحمد: 5/7-8-17، سنن أبي داود: 2838، سنن النسائي: 4225، سنن الترمذي: 1522، سنن ابن ماجه: 3165، اس حدیث کو امام ترمذی رحمہ اللہ نے حسن صحیح اور حافظ ذہبی رحمہ اللہ (تلخیص المستدرک: 2/237) نے صحیح کہا ہے۔»
Hadith Number: 911
حدثنا ابو بكر محمد بن إسحاق الصغاني ، قال: ثنا محمد بن عمر العقدي ، قال: ثنا عبد الوارث ، عن ايوب ، عن عكرمة ، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم " عق عن الحسن والحسين رضي الله عنهما كبشا كبشا" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ‘Aqiqah for Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), one ram each.
تخریج الحدیث: از غلام مصطفےٰ ظهير امن پوري: «إسناده صحيح: سنن أبي داود: 2841، اس حدیث کو امام ابن خزیمہ (بلوغ المرام لابن حجر: 1355)، حافظ نووی (المجموع شرح المہذب: 8/428) اور حافظ عبد الحق اشبیلی رحمہ اللہ (الاحکام الوسطی: 4/141) نے صحیح قرار دیا ہے۔»
Hadith Number: 912
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى ، قال: ثنا ابو معمر ، قال: ثنا عبد الوارث ، قال: ثنا ايوب ، عن عكرمة ، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما، ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم " عق عن الحسن كبشا، وعن الحسين كبشا" ، رواه الثوري، وابن عيينة، وحماد بن زيد، وغيرهم، عن ايوب، لم يجاوزوا به عكرمة.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the ‘Aqiqah of one ram on behalf of Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) and also performed the ‘Aqiqah of one ram on behalf of Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him). This has been narrated by Thawri, Ibn ‘Uyaynah, Hammad bin Zayd and others from Ayyub, and they did not mention beyond ‘Ikrimah.
