It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We had been forbidden from asking questions from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so we liked it when an intelligent Bedouin would come and ask questions from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and we would listen. One day, it happened that a Bedouin man came and said:“O Muhammad! Your messenger came to us and informed us that you claim that Allah Almighty has sent you?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“He spoke the truth.”He said:“Then tell me, who created the sky?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Allah Almighty.”He said:“Who created the earth?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Allah Almighty.”He said:“Who created these mountains and placed so much in them?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Allah Almighty.”He said:“Then by the One who created the sky, created the earth, and fixed these mountains! Has Allah Almighty really sent you?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Yes.”He said:“Your messenger also said that five prayers are obligatory upon us in a day and night?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“He spoke the truth.”He said:“Then by the One who sent you! Has Allah Almighty commanded you this?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Yes.”He said:“Your messenger also said that zakat is obligatory on our wealth?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“He spoke the truth.”He said:“Then by the One who sent you! Has Allah Almighty commanded you this?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Yes.”He said:“Your messenger also said that fasting in Ramadan is obligatory upon us once a year?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Yes, he spoke the truth.”He said:“Then by the One who sent you! Has Allah Almighty commanded you to fast?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Yes.”He then said:“Your messenger also said that whoever has the ability, Hajj to the House of Allah is obligatory upon him?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“He spoke the truth.”After hearing all this, the man turned back saying:“By the One who sent you as a Prophet with the truth! I will neither add to these (acts of worship) nor decrease from them.”The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“If he is speaking the truth, he will surely enter Paradise.”

A similar hadith is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), except that it contains these additional words: "I have believed in what you have brought, and I am the messenger of those people of my tribe who have stayed behind. I am Dhamam bin Tha'labah from the Banu Sa'd bin Bakr."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is Islam?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Five prayers in a day and night." He said: "Is there any prayer upon me besides these?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Then he asked about fasting, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The fasts of Ramadan." He said: "Is there any fast upon me besides these?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Then zakat was mentioned, and he said: "Is there any zakat upon me besides this?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Finally, he said: "By Allah! I will neither add to these acts of worship nor decrease from them." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he has spoken the truth, he has succeeded."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Haydah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, before coming to you, I had sworn more oaths than these that I would neither come to you nor accept your religion." The narrator Bahz joined both his palms together to indicate this. In another narration, it is: "Until I had sworn as many oaths as the number of my fingers that I would neither come to you nor accept your religion." In any case, now I have come to you, while I am a person who understands nothing except those matters which Allah Almighty and His Messenger will make me understand. Now, I beseech you by Allah's essence, tell me: With what has our Lord sent you to us?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "With Islam." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is the sign of Islam, what is Islam?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you say: I have submitted my face (i.e., myself) to Allah and I have turned away (from the religion of polytheism), then you establish prayer, pay zakat, and every Muslim is forbidden to another Muslim."

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "What is the matter with me that I am seizing you from the rooms to save you from the Fire? Beware! Surely my Lord is the One Who will call me, and He will ask me: 'Did you convey My message to My servants?' And I will answer saying: 'O my Lord! I conveyed it to them.' Beware!
Sayyiduna Abu Razin Aqili (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is faith?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is that you bear witness that Allah Almighty alone is the true deity, He is One and Unique, He has no partner, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger, and that Allah and His Messenger are dearer to you than all other things, and that you would prefer to be burned in the fire rather than associate partners with Allah, and that you love no one who is not a relative except for the sake of Allah Almighty. When this happens, that is, when you accomplish these matters, then the love of faith will enter your heart just as the love of water penetrates the heart of a thirsty person on a very hot day." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! How will I know that I am a believer?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Any person from my Ummah who does a good deed, while knowing that it is a good deed and that Allah Almighty is the One who will reward him for it, and likewise, any person who commits a sin, while knowing that it is indeed a sin, and then seeks forgiveness from Allah Almighty, and knows that only He forgives, then he is a believer."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the delegation of Abdul Qais arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To whom does this delegation or this tribe belong?" They said: "We are from Rabi'ah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome to this delegation or tribe, you have come without disgrace or regret." They said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have come to you after a long journey, and since the disbelieving tribe of Mudar stands as a barrier between us and you, we can only come to you during the sacred months. Therefore, give us a command by which we may enter Paradise and also teach it to those we have left behind." Then they asked about drinking vessels, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them regarding four things and forbade them from four things. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them to have faith in Allah, and then asked: "Do you know what faith in Allah is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is to bear witness that Allah alone is worthy of worship and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His Messenger, to establish prayer, to pay zakat, to fast in Ramadan, and to give one-fifth of the spoils of war." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them from using gourds, green jars, vessels made from palm trunks, and tar-coated vessels, and said: "Remember these matters and inform those you have left behind."

Abdullah Yashkari, may Allah have mercy on him, says: I went to Kufa to bring a mule. When I reached the market, I saw that it was still closed. I said to my companion, "If we go to the mosque (it would be better)," while the mosque was situated among the date sellers. We saw that there was a man from the Qais tribe in the mosque; people used to call him Ibn Muntafiq. He was narrating: "A man described to me the attributes of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so I searched for him in Mina, but someone told me that he, peace and blessings be upon him, would be in Arafat at that time." I reached there, but when I wanted to come before him, I was told, "Move away from the path of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." But he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Call this man, his limbs may become useless, what is the matter with him?" So I pushed forward and reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and held the reins of his mount and said: "I will ask about two things: which deed will save me from the Fire, and which deed will admit me to Paradise?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, looked towards the sky and then lowered his head. After that, he, peace and blessings be upon him, turned his face towards me and said: "You have asked a very concise question, but in reality, it is a great and lengthy matter. Nevertheless, now understand my words: You must worship Allah Almighty, associate nothing with Him, perform the obligatory prayers, give the obligatory zakat, fast in Ramadan, and whatever you like for yourself from people, choose the same for them, and whatever you dislike from people, keep them safe from that as well." Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Now move away from the path of the mount."
