الْفَصْلُ الْأَوَّلُ فِي اسْتِحْبَابِ الْوُضُوءِ لِلْجُنُبِ إِذَا أَرَادَ النَّوْمَ
The First Section on the Recommendation of Ablution for the Junub if He Wants to Sleep
Hadith Number: 902
عن نافع عن ابن عمر ان عمر سال النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: هل ينام احدنا وهو جنب؟ فقال: ((نعم ويتوضا وضوءه للصلاة)) قال نافع: فكان ابن عمر إذا اراد ان يفعل شيئا من ذلك توضا وضوءه للصلاة ما خلا رجليه
Nafi’ reports: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Can a person sleep in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Yes, but he should perform ablution (wudu) as for prayer. Whenever Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to do so, he would perform ablution as for prayer, except that he would not wash his feet.

حكم: ھذا حديث تقدم مرفوعه برقم (900)۔ ولفظ القسم المرفوع منه عند عبد بن حميد: ((نعم ويتوضأ وضوء ه للصلاة ما عدا قدميه۔)) فجعل قوله ما عدا قدميه مرفوعا مع انه عند غيره موقوف علي ابن عمر۔ وأخرج فعل ابن عمر ھذا مالك في المؤطا : 1/ 48
Hadith Number: 903
عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((لا ترقدن جنبا حتى تتوضا))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not ever sleep in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) without performing ablution (wudu).

Hadith Number: 904
عن عبد الله بن خباب ان ابا سعيد الخدري رضي الله عنه ذكر لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم انه تصيبه الجنابة فيريد ان ينام فامره ان يتوضا ثم ينام
Abdullah bin Khabbab reports that Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he becomes in a state of janabah while he intends to sleep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to perform ablution and then go to sleep.

Hadith Number: 905
عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إذا كان جنبا واراد ان ينام وهو جنب توضا وضوءه للصلاة قبل ان ينام وكان يقول: ((من اراد ان ينام وهو جنب فليتوضا وضوءه للصلاة))
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would become junub and intended to sleep, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform ablution as for prayer before sleeping and would say: Whoever intends to sleep in a state of janabah should perform ablution as for prayer.

The Second Section on the Recommendation of Ablution for the Junub if He Wants to Eat or Return
Hadith Number: 906
عن عائشة قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إذا اراد ان ينام وهو جنب توضا وضوءه للصلاة فإذا اراد ان ياكل او يشرب غسل كفيه ثم ياكل او يشرب إن شاء
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to sleep in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), he would perform ablution as for prayer. Similarly, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to eat or drink in that state, he would wash his hands, and then if he wished, he would eat or drink.

Hadith Number: 907
(وعنها من طريق ثان) انها قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إذا كان جنبا فاراد ان ينام او ياكل توضا
(Second chain): Sayyida says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of major ritual impurity and intended to sleep or eat, he would perform ablution.

Hadith Number: 908
حدثنا عبد الله حدثني ابي ثنا سفيان عن عاصم عن ابي المتوكل عن ابي سعيد الخدري رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: ((يتوضا إذا جامع وإذا اراد ان يرجع)) قال سفيان: ابو سعيد ادرك الحرة
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a man wishes to return (to intercourse) after having done it once, he should perform ablution. Sufyan said: Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id witnessed the time of the Battle of Harrah, meaning he was alive at that time.

The Third Section on Delaying Ghusl Until the End of the Night
Hadith Number: 909
عن غضيف بن الحارث قال: قلت لعائشة رضي الله عنها: ارايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كان يغتسل من الجنابة في اول الليل او في آخره؟ قالت: ربما اغتسل في اول الليل وربما اغتسل في آخره، قلت: الله اكبر، الحمد لله الذي جعل في الامر سعة، قلت: ارايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كان يوتر في اول الليل او في آخره؟ قالت: ربما اوتر في اول الليل وربما اوتر في آخره، قلت: الله اكبر، الحمد لله الذي جعل في الامر سعة، قلت: ارايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كان يجهر بالقرآن او يخافت به؟ قالت: ربما جهر به وربما خافت، قلت: الله اكبر، الحمد لله الذي جعل في الامر سعة
Ghudaif bin Harith says: I asked Sayyida Aisha (RA): What is your opinion regarding whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl at the beginning of the night or at the end? She said: Sometimes the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform ghusl in the first part of the night and sometimes in the last part. I said: Allahu Akbar, all praise is due to Allah who has granted ease in this matter. Then I asked: What is your opinion regarding whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the Witr prayer in the first part of the night or the last part? She said: Sometimes the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform the Witr prayer in the first part of the night and sometimes in the last part. I said: Allahu Akbar, all praise is due to Allah who has granted ease in this matter as well. Then I asked: What is your opinion regarding whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the Qur’an aloud or silently? She said: Sometimes he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite aloud and sometimes silently. I said: Allahu Akbar, all praise is due to Allah who has granted ease in this matter as well.

Hadith Number: 910
عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يجنب ثم ينام ولا يمس ماء حتى يقوم بعد ذلك فيغتسل
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would become junub, he would sleep without even touching water, and then when he woke up, he would perform ghusl.

Hadith Number: 911
(وعنها من طريق ثان) قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصيب من اهله من اول الليل ثم ينام ولا يمس ماء، فإذا استيقظ من آخر الليل عاد إلى اهله واغتسل
(Second chain) Sayyida says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would have intercourse with his wife in the first part of the night, then sleep without touching water, and when he woke up in the last part of the night, he would again fulfill the right of the wife and then perform ghusl.
