Chapter on the Sunnah of Isha
Hadith Number: 2090
(ومن طريق ثان) حدثنا عبد الله حدثني ابي ثنا عثمان بن عمر قال انا مالك فذكر مثله، قال بتا يعني النطع فصلى عليه، فلقد رايت فذكر معناه
(Second chain) There is a similar hadith, with the additional detail that the meaning of "batta" is explained as "al-nat‘", which refers to a leather mat that was spread out for prayer and for eating food.

Chapter on the Two Units of Fajr, Their Virtue, and Emphasis
Hadith Number: 2091
عن عائشة رضي الله عنها عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم في الركعتين قبل صلاة الفجر قال: ((هما احب إلي من الدنيا جميعا))
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the two rak'ahs before Fajr, that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said about them: These two rak'ahs are more beloved to me than the whole world.

وعنها ايضا قالت: ما رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم اسرع منه إلى ركعتين قبل صلاة الغداة ولا إلى غنيمة يطلبها
It is also narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I have not seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) hasten towards anything as quickly as he would towards the two rak'ahs before the Fajr prayer, nor did he hasten so much even to obtain any booty.

Hadith Number: 2093
عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: ((لا تدعوا ركعتي الفجر وإن طردتكم الخيل))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not abandon the two Sunnah (units) of Fajr under any circumstances, even if a group of (enemy) horsemen is pursuing you.

عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: لم يكن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم لشيء من النوافل اشد معاهدة من الركعتين قبل الصبح
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not adhere to any voluntary prayer as regularly as he did to the two rak'ahs before the Fajr prayer.

عن المقدام بن شريح عن ابيه قال: قلت لعائشة (رضي الله عنها): ما كان يصنع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قبل ان يخرج؟ قالت: كان يصلي الركعتين ثم يخرج
Shurayh says: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do before leaving the house. She said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray two rak'ahs, then he would leave.

Hadith Number: 2096
عن سلمة بن نبيط قال كان ابي وجدي وعمي مع النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: اخبرني ابي قال: رايت النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يخطب عشية عرفة على جمل احمر، قال سلمة: اوصاني ابي بصلاة السحر، قلت: يا ابت! إني لا اطيقها، قال: فانظر الركعتين قبل الفجر فلا تدعنهما، ولا تشخص في الفتنة
Salamah bin Nabit says: My father, grandfather, and uncle were with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). My father said: I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon on the day of Arafah in the afternoon, riding a red camel. Then my father instructed me to perform the Tahajjud prayer, but I said: Father! I do not have enough strength for it. Upon hearing this, he said: Then at least be mindful of the two rak‘ahs before Fajr and never abandon them, and do not expose yourself during times of tribulation.

Chapter on Shortening the Two Units Before Fajr and What to Recite in Them
Hadith Number: 2097
عن نافع عن ابن عمر عن حفصة ابنة عمر زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ورضي عنها قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصلي ركعتي الفجر قبل الصبح في بيتي يخففهما جدا، قال نافع: وكان عبد الله يخففهما كذلك
It is narrated from the wife of the Messenger, Sayyidah Hafsah bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to perform the two rak‘ahs before the Fajr prayer in my house, and he would offer them with great brevity.

عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: كان المؤذن إذا سكت من صلاة الصبح صلى ركعتين خفيفتين تعني النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when the muezzin would become silent after the Fajr adhan, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would offer two light rak‘ahs.

وعنها ايضا قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصلي الركعتين قبل الغداة فيخففهما، حتى إني لا اشك اقرا فيهما بفاتحة الكتاب ام لا
It is also narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform two rak'ahs before the Fajr prayer, and he would make them so brief that I would begin to doubt whether he had recited Surah Al-Fatihah or not.
