بَابُ جَوَازِ التَّطَوُّعِ مِنْ جُلُوسٍ لِغَيْرِ عُذْرٍ وَتَنْصِيفِ أَجْرِهِ لِغَيْرِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَليهِ وسَلمَ
Chapter on the Permissibility of Voluntary Prayer While Sitting Without Excuse and Halving Its Reward for Others Than the Prophet
Hadith Number: 2431
عن السائب بن عبد الله رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: ((صلاة القاعد على النصف من صلاة القائم))
Sayyiduna Sa’ib bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The prayer of the one who prays sitting is (in reward and merit) half of the prayer of the one who prays standing.

Hadith Number: 2432
(وعنه ايضا) قال: دخلت على عائشة رضي الله عنها فحدثتنا ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: ((صلاة القاعد على النصف من صلاة القائم))
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'ib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I went to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and she related to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The prayer of the one who prays sitting is half of the prayer of the one who prays standing.

Chapter on the Prophet’s Voluntary Prayer While Sitting
Hadith Number: 2433
عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصلي كثيرا من صلاته وهو جالس
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray mostly while sitting.

عن ام سلمة رضي الله عنها قالت: والذي توفى نفسه! تعني النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ما توفي حتى كانت اكثر صلاته قاعدا إلا المكتوبة، وكان اعجب العمل إليه الذي يدوم عليه العبد وإن كان يسيرا
Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: By the One Who caused the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to pass away! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not pass away until he began to perform most of his prayers sitting, except for the obligatory prayers, and the deed most beloved to him was that which a servant performed consistently, even if it was a small deed.

Hadith Number: 2435
عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصلي قائما وقاعدا وحافيا ومنتعلا (زاد في رواية) وينفتل عن يمينه وعن يساره
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray standing and sitting, and likewise, he would pray barefoot as well as wearing shoes, and (after finishing the prayer) he would turn to the right side and also to the left side.

Section on the Description of the Prophet’s Voluntary Prayer While Sitting
Hadith Number: 2436
عن هشام بن عروة عن ابيه عن عائشة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ورضي الله عنها انها اخبرته انها لم تر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصلي في سبحته قاعدا حتى اسن، فكان يقرا قاعدا حتى إذا اراد ان يركع قام فقرا نحوا من ثلاثين او اربعين آية ثم ركع
The wife of the Messenger, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), says: I never saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing prayer at night while sitting, until he became old. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite while sitting, and when he intended to bow (ruku‘), he would stand up and, after reciting thirty or forty verses, would perform ruku‘.

Hadith Number: 2437
(وعنها من طريق ثان) إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كان يصلي جالسا فيقرا وهو جالس، فإذا بقي عليه من قراءته ما يكون ثلاثين او اربعين آية قام فقرا وهو قائم ثم ركع ثم سجد، ثم يفعل في الركعة الثانية مثل ذلك
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would pray while sitting, and he would continue reciting while sitting. When thirty or forty verses remained, he would stand up, then after completing the recitation, he would perform bowing and prostration. Then in the second rak'ah, he would do the same.

Hadith Number: 2438
عن عبد الله بن شقيق ان عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إذا صلى قائما ركع قائما، وإذا صلى قاعدا ركع قاعدا
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prayer standing, he would also perform the bowing (ruku') standing, and when he performed prayer sitting, he would also perform the bowing sitting.

Hadith Number: 2439
عن حفصة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ورضي الله عنها انها قالت: لم ار رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصلي في سبحته جالسا قط حتى إذا كان قبل موته بعام او بعامين فكان يصلي في سبحته جالسا ويقرا السورة فيرتلها حتى تكون اطول من اطول منها
The wife of the Messenger, Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), says: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing voluntary prayers while sitting, but one or two years before his passing, he (peace and blessings be upon him) began to pray while sitting. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite a surah and would recite it so slowly and deliberately that it would become longer and longer.
