Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man would come to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and accept Islam solely so that he might gain some worldly benefit, but before evening had fallen, Islam would become more beloved and honorable to him than the world and all that it contains.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever anything was asked from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the name of Islam, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would give it. One day a man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him for something. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him so many goats as charity that they filled the valley between two mountains. When he returned to his people, he said: O my people! Accept Islam, for indeed Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) gives with such generosity that he has no fear of poverty.

Sayyiduna Amr bin Taghlib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that some wealth came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for distribution. He (peace be upon him) gave to some people and did not give to others. Those who were not given (complained and) spoke critically, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) became aware of their words. So he (peace be upon him) ascended the pulpit, praised and glorified Allah, and said: I give wealth to some people and do not give to others, and those whom I do not give are more beloved to me than those to whom I give. I distribute wealth among some people because of their impatience and anxiety, and I entrust some people to the richness and goodness that Allah has placed in their hearts. For example, Amr bin Taghlib. (Upon hearing this) Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: At that time, I was sitting right in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), (and I loved this statement so much that) I would not wish to have red camels in exchange for what the Prophet (peace be upon him) said about me.

Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A Bedouin came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me an action by which I may enter Paradise. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have asked a brief question, but it is a great matter. In any case, free a slave completely or take part in freeing someone. He said: Are these two not the same? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, ‘Itqun-Nasmah is that you alone free someone, and Fakkur-Raqabah is that you take part in the freedom of a slave. (Other good deeds are that) you lend a milch animal to someone, and maintain ties of kinship with your relatives, even if he is an oppressor. If you do not have the strength for this, then feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, enjoin good and forbid evil. If you do not have the strength for these matters either, then restrain your tongue from everything except good deeds.

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is a right upon Allah to help three types of people: (1) the one who strives in the path of Allah, (2) the one who marries with the intention of maintaining chastity, and (3) the slave who has entered into a contract for his freedom and intends to fulfill it.

Sayyiduna Qabisah bin Mukhariq Hilali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I accepted a financial guarantee (for reconciliation among people) and, in this regard, came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to request assistance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wait until zakat comes to us; either we will pay you in full or we will assist you in this matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: Asking and begging is not lawful except for three types of people: (1) The person who gives a financial guarantee for the sake of reconciliation among people, he may ask in this matter, but when he has paid the guarantee, he should refrain from asking; (2) The person upon whom such a calamity befalls that it destroys his wealth, he may ask until his need is fulfilled, and then he should stop doing so; and (3) The person who is afflicted with hunger, such a person may also ask until his need is fulfilled, but then he should refrain from doing so. Qabisah! Other than these situations, asking is forbidden; whoever does so consumes what is unlawful.
