The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Providing water is the best charity. So he had a well dug, which became famous in Madinah by the name of the family of Sa’d.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted permission. He came close to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and clung to him. Then he said: O Messenger of Allah! What is that thing which it is not permissible to withhold? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Water. Then he said: O Messenger of Allah! What is that thing which it is not lawful to withhold? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Salt. Then he said: O Messenger of Allah! What is that thing which it is not lawful to withhold? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is better for you that you do a good deed.
