بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ
Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding the Ring of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and That It Was Made of Silver
Hadith Number: 7978
عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما قال اتخذ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم خاتما من ورق فكان في يده ثم كان في يد ابي بكر رضي الله عنه من بعده ثم كان في يد عمر رضي الله عنه ثم كان في يد عثمان رضي الله عنه نقشه محمد رسول الله
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring made of silver. It remained in the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then after him, it remained in the hand of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), after him in the hand of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), then in the hand of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). The words "Muhammad Rasul Allah" were engraved on it.

عن انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال لما اراد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ان يكتب إلى الروم قالوا إنهم لا يقرءون كتابا إلا مختوما قال فاتخذ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم خاتما من فضة كاني انظر إلى بياضه في يد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم نقشه محمد رسول الله
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to write a letter to the Romans, the people said to him that they only read a letter which has a seal on it. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a silver ring made. It is as if I am still seeing the whiteness of that ring in the hand of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The words "Muhammad Rasul Allah" were engraved on it.

وعنه ايضا قال اصطنع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم خاتما فقال إنا قد اصطنعنا خاتما ونقشنا فيه نقشا فلا ينقش احد عليه
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had a ring made and said: We have had a ring made and have engraved on it (the words "Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah"); none of you may have this inscription made.

It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the ring of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was made of silver and its gemstone was made in Abyssinia.

عن انس رضي الله عنه قال كان خاتم النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم فضة فصه منه
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the ring of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was also made of silver, and its stone was also of silver.

عن ابن شهاب رضي الله عنه ان انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه اخبره انه راى في يد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم خاتما من ورق يوما واحدا ثم إن الناس اضطربوا الخواتيم من ورق ولبسوها فطرح النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم خاتمه فطرح الناس خواتيمهم
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I saw a silver ring on the hand of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) one day. The people also had silver rings made and wore them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took off his ring and threw it away, so the people also threw away their rings.

عن انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه ان النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم صنع خاتما من ورق فنقش فيه محمد رسول الله ثم قال لا تنقشوا عليه
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring made of silver and had the words "Muhammad Rasul Allah" engraved on it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not have an inscription like this made.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the ring of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was engraved with the words "Muhammad, Messenger of Allah."

عن انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال لا تستضيئوا بنار المشركين ولا تنقشوا خواتيمكم عربيا
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not seek light from the fire of the polytheists, and do not engrave Arabic inscriptions on your rings.

حدثنا يزيد انبانا حماد بن سلمة رضي الله عنه قال رايت ابن ابي رافع رضي الله عنه يتختم في يمينه فسالته عن ذلك فذكر انه راى عبد الله بن جعفر رضي الله عنه يتختم في يمينه وقال عبد الله بن جعفر كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يتختم في يمينه
Hammad bin Salamah says: I saw Ibn Abi Rafi’ wearing a ring on his right hand. When I asked him about it, he said: I saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja’far (may Allah be pleased with him) wearing a ring on his right hand, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja’far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wear a ring on his right hand.
