It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I was sitting with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I heard him say: Learn Surah Al-Baqarah, acquiring its knowledge is a source of blessing and abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the followers of falsehood cannot overcome it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) paused for a while and then said: Learn Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Aal-e-Imran, these two are radiant and beautiful Surahs, on the Day of Resurrection they will cover their reciters as if they are two clouds or two things providing shade or two flocks of birds with outspread wings. And indeed, the Qur’an will come to the reciter on the Day of Resurrection when his grave is split open, it will appear like a weak and pale-colored man and will say to the servant: Do you recognize me? He will say: I do not recognize you. The Qur’an will again say: Do you recognize me? He will say: I do not recognize you. It will say: I am your companion, the Qur’an, who kept you thirsty at noon and kept you awake at night. Today, every trader is behind his trade (i.e., every trader hopes to gain profit from his trade), and today you are above every trade (i.e., today you will gain more benefit than any trade). Then he will be given sovereignty in his right hand and eternity in his left hand, a crown of dignity will be placed on his head, and his parents will be dressed in two fine garments, so valuable that the world and all it contains cannot match their value. They will say: O our Lord! Why have these garments been given to us? It will be said to them: Because your son recited the Qur’an. Then it will be said to him: Keep reciting and keep ascending the ranks of Paradise. He will continue to ascend the lofty chambers of Paradise as long as he keeps reciting, whether he recites quickly or slowly.

Sayyiduna Ma’qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surah Al-Baqarah is the hump and the peak of the Qur’an, with every verse of it, eighty (80) angels descended, and its verse {لَا اِلٰہَ إِلَّا ہُوَ الْحَیُّ الْقَیُّومُ} was brought out from beneath the Divine Throne and then joined to Surah Al-Baqarah. Surah Ya-Sin is the heart of the Noble Qur’an; whoever recites it seeking Allah’s pleasure and reward in the Hereafter, Allah Almighty will forgive him. Recite this Surah near your dying ones.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty sent Adam (peace be upon him) down to the earth, the angels said: O our Lord! Will You place upon this earth one who will cause corruption in it and shed blood, while we glorify You with praise and declare Your holiness? Allah said: I know that which you do not know. But the angels said: We are more obedient to You than the children of Adam. Allah Almighty said to the angels: Very well, then bring two angels so that We may send them down to the earth and see what they do. They said: O our Lord! These are Harut and Marut, two angels. So they were sent down to the earth, and the most beautiful woman was presented before them. Both of them approached her and demanded from her their desires, but she said: By Allah! You cannot come near me until you utter a word of shirk (associating partners with Allah). They said: We cannot associate partners with Allah Almighty. So she left, and then returned with a child. Again, they demanded their desires from her, but she said: You cannot come near me until you kill this child. They said: By Allah! We cannot kill him. She left, and next time she came with a cup of wine. When they again demanded their desires from her, she said: By Allah! I will not let you come near me until you drink this wine. When they drank the wine, (intoxicated) they committed adultery with the woman and killed the child as well. When they regained consciousness, the woman said: By Allah! In the state of intoxication, you have committed everything you previously refused. (As punishment for this crime) they were told to choose one of the punishments of this world or the Hereafter, and they chose the punishment of this world."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Jews came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Abu al-Qasim! We will ask you about five things; if you answer them, we will recognize that you are a true Prophet and we will follow you. You took from them a pledge just as Yaqub (peace be upon him) took a pledge from his sons, when they said that Allah Almighty is a witness over what we say. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Present your questions.

(1) They said: Tell us the sign of a Prophet. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The eyes of a Prophet sleep, but his heart does not sleep.

(2) They said: Tell us how male and female are created? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The fluids of man and woman mix; when the man’s fluid prevails over the woman’s, a male is born, and when the woman’s fluid prevails, a female is born.

(3) They said: Tell us what Yaqub (peace be upon him) made unlawful for himself? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He suffered from sciatica, and only the milk of she-camels suited him, so when he recovered, he made the meat of camels unlawful for himself. They said: You have spoken the truth.

(4) Well then, tell us what is this thunder? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is an angel among the angels of Allah Almighty, who is in charge of the clouds, or in the hand of this angel is a whip of fire, with which he drives the clouds wherever Allah Almighty commands. They said: What is this sound that is heard? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is the sound of that whip. They said: You have spoken the truth.

(5) They said: One question remains; if you answer it, we will pledge allegiance to you. It is that for every Prophet there is an angel appointed who brings him goodness, i.e., revelation. Tell us, who is your angel companion? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is Jibril (peace be upon him). This time they said: Jibril? He brings war, fighting, and punishment; he is our enemy. If you had said Mika’il, who descends with mercy, vegetation, and rain, then it would have been acceptable. At that moment, Allah Almighty revealed this verse: {Say, whoever is an enemy to Jibril—for indeed, he has brought it down upon your heart by Allah’s permission, confirming what was before it and as guidance and glad tidings for the believers.} (Surah al-Baqarah: 97)

(A second chain) A group of Jews came to the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, one day and said: O Abu al-Qasim! Tell us some things that only a prophet knows. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Ask whatever you wish, but keep in mind the covenant of Allah and also what Jacob, peace be upon him, took as a responsibility from his sons: that if I give you correct answers to your questions, then you must follow me according to Islam. They said: Alright, this is your right. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Now ask whatever you wish. They said: Tell us about four things: What food did Jacob, peace be upon him, make unlawful for himself before the Torah was revealed? When a man's fluid overcomes a woman's fluid, how is a male child born? How does this unlettered Prophet sleep? And who among the angels is his friend? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I give you the covenant and pledge of Allah, that if I answer you, you will follow me. They gave the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, every firm promise. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I ask you by Allah, Who revealed the Torah to Moses, peace be upon him, do you know that Jacob, peace be upon him, became seriously ill and his illness was prolonged, so he vowed that if Allah healed him, he would make unlawful for himself his most beloved drink and his most beloved food? And his most beloved food was camel meat and his most beloved drink was camel milk? They said: Yes. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O my Allah! Bear witness over them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I ask you by Allah, there is no god but He, Who revealed the Torah to Moses, peace be upon him, do you know that a man's fluid is white and thick, and a woman's fluid is yellow and thin, and whichever of them prevails, by Allah's command, the child resembles that one? If the man's fluid overcomes the woman's, then by Allah's command, a male is born, and if the woman's fluid overcomes the man's semen, then a female is born? They said: Allah knows, this is the truth. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O my Allah! Bear witness over them. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I ask you by Allah, Who revealed the Torah to Moses, peace be upon him, do you know that the eyes of this unlettered Prophet sleep but his heart does not sleep? They said: Allah knows, this is the truth. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O my Allah! Bear witness over them. They said: You are also like this now. Tell us, who among the angels is your friend? After you tell us, we will either join you or part from you. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: My friend is Gabriel, peace be upon him. In fact, for every prophet whom Allah has sent, Gabriel, peace be upon him, has been his friend. They said: Then we part from you. If any other angel had been your friend, we would have followed and affirmed you. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: What prevents you from affirming Gabriel? They said: This angel is our enemy. At that time Allah the Exalted said: {قُلْ مَنْ کَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّجِبْرِیْلَ فَاِنَّہٗنَزَّلَہٗعَلٰی قَلْبِکَ بِاِذْنِ اللّٰہِ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَیْنَیَدَیْہِ وَھُدًی وَّبُشْرٰی لِلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ۔ … … Say, whoever is an enemy to Gabriel—for indeed, he has brought it [the Qur'an] down upon your heart by permission of Allah, confirming that which was before it and as guidance and good tidings for the believers. ... They threw the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know. So at that time, these people returned with double wrath.

Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have agreed with my Lord in three matters. I said: If we take the Maqam Ibrahim as a place of prayer, then this verse was revealed {وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاہِیمَ مُصَلًّی} … "Take the Maqam Ibrahim as a place of prayer." I said: O Messenger of Allah! Good and bad people enter upon your wives; if you order them to observe veiling, it would be better, so the verse of veiling was revealed. And when the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered with him out of jealousy, I said: It may be that if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divorces you, Allah will give him better wives in your place, so in the same way the verse was revealed.
