Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has decreed a matter for the believer, and I am greatly amazed at it. If any good reaches him, he praises his Lord and gives thanks, and if he is afflicted with any calamity, he praises his Lord and shows patience. The believer receives reward for everything, even for the morsel that he puts in his wife’s mouth.

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that at night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to feel pain, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) started to complain and turned about on his bed. I (Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her) said: If any one of us had done this, you would have noticed it. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, the righteous experience severe pain, and the situation is such that whatever pain befalls a believer, whether it is a thorn or something greater than that, because of it one of his sins is forgiven and one rank is raised.

Narrated from Sayyiduna Mahmood bin Rabee’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Verily, when Allah Almighty loves a people, He tests them; so whoever wishes to be patient, for him is patience, and whoever becomes impatient, for him is impatience.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man met a woman who had been an adulteress during the time of ignorance. He began to flirt with her, to the extent that he touched her with his hand. Upon this, the woman said: "Stop! Indeed, Allah Almighty has taken away shirk and ignorance and has brought us Islam." So the man left, and on his way back, his face struck a wall and he was injured. Then he came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and related the entire incident to him. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are a servant for whom Allah Almighty intended good, and when Allah intends good for someone, He hastens the punishment for his sin. And when He intends evil for a servant, He withholds the punishment for his sin, until on the Day of Resurrection he is given full recompense, as if it were the 'Ir mountain."

Syedna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no one who is more patient over what he hears of harm than Allah Almighty. The servant associates partners with Allah and claims that He has a child, yet Allah still grants them well-being, defends them, and provides them with sustenance.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was sitting in the shade of the Ka'bah, having made a cloak his pillow. We said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah for us and seek help from Him for us. Upon hearing this, the color of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned red or changed, and he said: Indeed, those before you were such that a pit was dug for them, then a saw was brought and placed on their heads and they were split in two, but this hardship did not turn them away from their religion. And with iron combs, the flesh was torn from the bones and nerves of people, but even this did not turn them away from their religion. And surely, surely Allah will complete this religion so that a rider will travel from Sana'a to Yemen, and he will fear none but Allah, or fear the wolf for his sheep, but you are being hasty.
