Hadith Number: 11360
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would return home after performing the Isha prayer, he would offer two rak‘ahs, then he would offer two rak‘ahs longer than those, after that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would offer three witr and would not separate them, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit and offer two rak‘ahs, and their bowing and prostration would also be performed while sitting.

Aswad says: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the night prayer of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She replied: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sleep in the early part of the night and stand (in prayer) in the latter part.

It is narrated from Ya'la bin Mamlak that he inquired from the wife of the Messenger, Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), about the night prayer of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). She replied: After performing the 'Isha prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would offer voluntary prayers, and then during the night, he would pray as much as Allah granted him the ability. After that, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would move away from the prayer mat and sleep for about as long as he had stood in prayer. Then, upon waking from sleep, he would stand in prayer again for about the same duration. This routine of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer continued until morning.

Abdullah bin Shaqiq says: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) use to perform the Duha (forenoon) prayer? She said: No, but when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from a journey, he would perform it. I asked: Did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) use to pray while sitting? She said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became older, he used to pray while sitting. I asked: Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) use to combine surahs when reciting? She said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the Mufassal surahs. I asked: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ever fast for an entire month? She said: To my knowledge, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never fasted an entire month except for Ramadan, and to my knowledge, he never left fasting for an entire month either. Until his death, it was his practice that he would fast some days in every month. In Yazid’s narration, instead of“yaqra’”the word“yaqrun”is used (meaning the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to recite the Mufassal surahs together).

Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding His Voluntary Fasting
Hadith Number: 11364
Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes fast continuously for several days, to the extent that it would be said that it seems he will not leave fasting now. But sometimes, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would not fast for a long period except for two days in a week, and he would not fast as many voluntary fasts in any other month as he would in the month of Sha’ban. I asked: O Messenger of Allah! When you start fasting, you do not stop, and when you stop, you do not fast except for two days in a week? He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Which two days? I replied: Monday and Thursday. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On these two days, the deeds of people are presented before Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, and I like that my deeds are presented before Allah while I am in a state of fasting. I asked: Do you not fast as many voluntary fasts in any other month as you do in Sha’ban? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The month between Rajab and Ramadan, that is, Sha’ban, is such a month that people are heedless of it, whereas in this month, deeds are presented before Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, and I like that my deeds are presented before Allah while I am fasting.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Shaqiq that he asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary fasts of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: To my knowledge, in whichever month the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) observed (voluntary) fasts, he would also leave some days without fasting, and in whichever month he did not fast, he would still observe some fasts in it. This remained his practice until his passing.

Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes fast so frequently that we would say he will never stop fasting, but then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave fasting for such a long period that we would think he will never fast again. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Bani Isra'il and Surah Az-Zumar every night.

Chapter on Some of What Has Been Reported Regarding His ﷺ Hajj

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ‘Umrah along with Hajj on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the sacrificial animal with him from Dhul-Hulaifah. During Ihram, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) first recited the Talbiyah for ‘Umrah and then for Hajj, and the people also performed ‘Umrah along with Hajj in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Some people took the sacrificial animal with them, but some did not have sacrificial animals. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Makkah, he said to the people:“Those who have the sacrificial animal with them, whatever has become unlawful due to Ihram will not become lawful for them until the Hajj is completed. But those who do not have the sacrificial animal with them, after performing the Tawaf of the House of Allah and the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, should cut their hair and come out of Ihram. Then they will enter Ihram separately for Hajj and offer sacrifice. Whoever does not have the ability to offer sacrifice should fast three days during the days of Hajj and seven days after returning home.”Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah, he performed Tawaf of the House of Allah, first kissed the Black Stone, then in the first three of the seven circuits around the House of Allah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked briskly, and in the remaining four, he walked at a normal pace. After completing the Tawaf, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered two rak‘ahs near Maqam Ibrahim, and when he finished with the salam, he went to Safa, performed the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and nothing that had become unlawful due to Ihram became lawful for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until the Hajj was completed. On the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the sacrifice and performed Tawaf of the House of Allah. After that, everything that had become unlawful due to Ihram became lawful for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Those who had brought sacrificial animals with them also performed the same actions as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had performed.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Tawaf of the Ka'bah while riding his camel and touched the Black Stone with his staff. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the place where Zamzam water was being served and said: "Give me some to drink." They said: "This water is affected by people; we will bring you (clean) water from home." But he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no need for that; give me to drink from where the people are drinking."
