It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: One night we talked with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for quite a long time, then when we presented ourselves before him in the morning, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Tonight, all the Prophets and their nations were presented before me. With some Prophets there were three people, with some a small group, with some a small band, and there were some Prophets with whom there was not even a single person, until Musa (peace be upon him) passed before me and with him was a large group of Bani Israel. Those people pleased me greatly. I asked: Who are these people? I was told that these are your brother Musa (peace be upon him) and his nation Bani Israel. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I asked, where is my Ummah? I was told to look to my right side. I looked and there was a huge crowd, filled with people’s faces. Then I was told: Look to your left side. I looked and that side of the horizon was also filled with people. Then I was asked: Are you now pleased? I said: Yes, I am pleased, O my Lord! I am pleased, O my Lord! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After that, I was told that with these followers of yours, there are seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise without reckoning. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May my parents be sacrificed for you, try to be among those seventy thousand, and if you cannot strive that much, then at least try to be among those in the crowd, and if not even that, then try to be among those on the horizon. I saw there some people pushing and shoving. Hearing this, Sayyiduna ‘Ukasha bin Mihsan (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Pray that Allah makes me among those seventy thousand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him. Then after him, another man stood up and made the same request. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Ukasha has preceded you. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then we became engaged in conversation and said: What do you think, who could these seventy thousand people be? Are they those who were born in Islam and never went near shirk until their death? When these words reached the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: They are those who neither cauterize wounds, nor seek ruqyah (spiritual healing), nor take omens, but rather place complete trust in their Lord.

The Companion رضي الله عنه said: Yes, indeed! I will look before me and recognize my Ummah among all the nations. Behind me, to my right and to my left, there will be people everywhere. A man asked: O Messenger of Allah! How will you recognize your Ummah among the individuals of the nations from the time of Noah (peace be upon him) to your own Ummah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: The limbs of my Ummah will be radiant due to the blessing of ablution, and no one from any other nation will have this sign except my Ummah. And the records of deeds of my Ummah will be given in their right hands, and I will also recognize them in this way, that their children will be running before them.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We returned from a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we passed by the mosque of Banu Mu’awiyah. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque and performed two units of prayer, and we also prayed with him. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated to Allah for a long time. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I asked my Lord for three things. I asked that Allah not destroy my ummah by drowning; Allah accepted my prayer. I asked that He not destroy my ummah by famine; Allah also accepted this prayer. I asked that there not be discord among them; Allah did not accept this prayer.

After completing the prayer, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Today I have prayed with utmost eagerness and fear of Allah. I made three supplications to my Lord; He accepted two of my supplications and did not accept one. I supplicated that He would not afflict my Ummah with famine, and He accepted it. Then I supplicated that their enemy would not overpower them, and He accepted this supplication as well. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khabbab bin Al-Aratt, who was a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and participated in the Battle of Badr. He says: Once, I kept watch over the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for the entire night. He spent the whole night in prayer. When he finished the prayer at the time of Fajr, I came to him and said: May my parents be sacrificed for you, tonight you have performed such a prayer that I have never seen you pray like this before. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, this was a prayer of utmost longing and fear of Allah. I made three supplications to my Lord, the Exalted, and He accepted two and rejected one. I prayed to my Lord, the Exalted, that He would not destroy us with the punishments with which He destroyed the previous nations, and He accepted this supplication. And I prayed to my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, that He would not let our enemies prevail over us, and He accepted this supplication as well. And I prayed to my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, that He would not cause discord among us, but He did not accept this supplication.
