- (اذهب بنعلي هاتين؛ فمن لقيت من وراء هذا الحائط يشهد ان لا إله إلا الله مستيقنا بها قلبه؛ فبشره بالجنة).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were sitting around the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) were also with us. (What happened was that) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up from among us (and went somewhere), and he was delayed in returning. We became afraid that (God forbid) perhaps he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had been taken away from us and passed away. We became anxious and stood up, and I was the first to become anxious. I set out to search for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), until I reached the garden of the Ansar of Banu Najjar. I circled around looking for a door, but I did not find any door. A small stream, coming from the well of Kharijah, was entering the garden, so I squeezed myself through it and (finally) reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked:“Is it Abu Hurairah?”I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked:“What happened to you (why have you come here)?”I said: You were sitting with us, then suddenly you stood up and were delayed in returning, so we feared that you had been taken away from us and passed away, so we became anxious, and I was the first to become anxious. (While searching) I reached this garden and squeezed myself in like a fox (through such and such a hole). The rest of the people are coming behind me. He gave me his two sandals and said:“Abu Hurairah! Take these my sandals and go, and whoever you meet beyond this garden, who testifies with certainty of heart that there is no god but Allah, give him the glad tidings of Paradise.”(So it happened that) the first person I met was Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked: Abu Hurairah! What are these sandals? I said: These are the sandals of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave them to me and sent me, that whoever I meet, who testifies with certainty of heart that there is no god but Allah, I should give him the glad tidings of Paradise. (Upon hearing this) Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) struck my chest, and I fell on my back. He said: Abu Hurairah! Come back. I started walking back to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and I was close to tears out of grief, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was following behind me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Abu Hurairah! What happened?”I said: I met Sayyiduna Umar, conveyed your message to him, he struck my chest, I fell on my back, and he said: Come back. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked:“Umar! What made you do that?”He said: O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, did you really give Abu Hurairah your sandals and send him, that whoever he meets, who testifies with certainty of heart that there is no god but Allah, he should give him the glad tidings of Paradise? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Yes (I sent him).”Sayyiduna Umar said: Do not do this, I fear that people (upon hearing such glad tidings) will rely on it (and abandon deeds), let the people act. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Leave them (i.e., do not narrate this hadith).”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: The delegation of Abdul Qais came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We belong to the tribe of Rabi’ah, and between you and us are the disbelievers of the tribe of Mudar, so we can only come to you during the sacred months. Therefore, give us a (comprehensive) command so that we may act upon it ourselves and also convey it to those who are behind us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I command you with four things and forbid you from four things: To have faith in Allah. Then, explaining faith, he said: To bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, and he folded one finger to count. To establish prayer, to pay zakat, to give one-fifth of the spoils (of war). And I forbid you from (using) gourds, green jars, wooden vessels, and vessels coated with tar.”

Sayyiduna ‘Ubādah bin Sāmit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Come and pledge allegiance to me on the condition that you will not associate anything with Allah, you will not steal, you will not commit adultery, you will not kill your children, you will not slander anyone, and you will not disobey me in matters of goodness. Whoever fulfills this pledge, his reward is with Allah. And whoever commits (any sin) and is punished for it, that will be an expiation for him. And whoever commits (any sin) and Allah conceals it for him, then his matter is with Allah; if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him.”

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One night I went out and saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was walking alone, and there was no man with him. I thought perhaps the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) disliked that anyone should walk with him. So I began to walk in the shadow of the moon. He turned towards me, saw me, and asked:“Who is this?”I said:“It is Abu Dharr, may Allah make me a sacrifice for you.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Abu Dharr! Come here.”I went to him and walked with him for a while. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me:“On the Day of Resurrection, those with much wealth will be the least in reward, except for the one whom Allah gives wealth and he scatters it to his right, left, front, and back (in charity), and does good deeds with it.”Then I continued to walk with him until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Sit here.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made me sit on a flat piece of land, around which there were stones. Then he said:“Remain seated here until I return.”Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went towards the Harrah (the land of black stones) and disappeared from sight. He stayed there for quite a while. Then I heard him coming, saying:“Even if he steals and even if he commits adultery.”When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reached me, I could not restrain myself and said:“O Messenger of Allah! May Allah make me a sacrifice for you! Who were you speaking to near the land of Harrah? No one was replying to you.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“That was Jibreel. He met me near the Harrah and said: (O Muhammad!) Give glad tidings to your Ummah that whoever dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise.”I said:“Jibreel! Even if he has stolen and even if he has committed adultery?”He said:“Yes.”I said:“Even if he has stolen and even if he has committed adultery?”He said:“Yes.”I said:“Even if he has stolen and even if he has committed adultery?”He said:“Yes, and even if he has drunk alcohol.”
