It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I wrote to the caretaker of my land not to withhold surplus water, because I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever withholds (from others) surplus water or grass (beyond his own need), Allah Almighty will withhold His bounty from him on the Day of Resurrection."

A man from the tribe of Banu Asad says: I camped with my family in Baqi‘ al-Gharqad. My family said to me: Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and ask him for something to eat. Then they became busy mentioning their needs. I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and I saw that a man was sitting with him, asking him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was saying: "I have nothing to give you." That man left angrily, saying: By my life! You give to whomever you wish. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He is angry with me because I have nothing to give him, even though any one of you who asks while he has an uqiyyah (forty dirhams) or something equivalent to it, then he has asked out of stubbornness and insistence." (When this) Asadi (heard this) he said: Our she-camel is better than an uqiyyah. So I returned and did not ask the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Later, barley and dried dates were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he gave to us as well, until Allah made us self-sufficient. Malik says that an uqiyyah is forty dirhams.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man opens the door of asking (begging) from people for himself, Allah Almighty opens the door of poverty and neediness upon him. If a man takes a rope, goes to a mountain (forest), gathers firewood, brings it back, and arranges for his food through (selling) it, then this is better for him than asking people, whether they give him something or not."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) apologized to Abu Bakr regarding Aisha. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not know that Abu Bakr would do what he did in the matter of Aisha (in that gathering). He raised his hand and slapped Aisha, and struck her forcefully on her chest as well. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed this and said: "Abu Bakr! From now on, I will never apologize to you."

Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and sought permission to enter upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He had heard that Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was raising her voice over the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) granted him permission and he entered and said:“O daughter of Umm Ruman!”and tried to grab her,“Do you raise your voice over the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?”But the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) intervened between the two of them. When Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) left, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), trying to please Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said:“See how I intervened between you and that man.”(Meanwhile) Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came again and sought permission and heard that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was making Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) laugh. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) granted him permission, and he entered. (This time) Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said:“O Messenger of Allah! Include me in your atmosphere of peace and reconciliation just as you included me in your quarrel.”

Sayyiduna Busar bin Jahash Qurashi (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these verses: "(So, O Prophet!) What is the matter with these disbelievers, that they rush towards you in crowds from the right and from the left? Does every one of them hope to enter the Garden of Bliss (Paradise)? Never! Indeed, they know from what We created them." (Surah Al-Ma'arij: 36-39) Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spat on his palm and said: "Allah says: O son of Adam! How can you render Me powerless? I created you from this kind of water, until when I fashioned you properly (and perfected all your limbs) and made you beautiful, so much so that when you began to walk in two pieces of cloth and gained dignity on the earth, you started gathering wealth and hoarding it (out of miserliness), and when (at the time of death) the soul reached the collarbones, you began to say: (Now) I give charity. But now, where is the time for charity?!"
