The servant of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Abdullah’s son passed away. He said to me:“Kuraib! Get up and go see if anyone has come for my son (for his funeral prayer)?”I said:“Yes.”He said:“Oh! May you perish, how many are they... are they forty?”I said:“They are more than forty.”He said:“Lift up my son’s body. I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘If forty believers intercede for a believer (for forgiveness), Allah accepts their intercession for the deceased.’”

Muhammad bin Amr bin Hazm narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever consoles his believing brother in his calamity, Allah Almighty will clothe him with a fine garment of honor and nobility on the Day of Resurrection."

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If any Muslim parents lose three sons who had not reached maturity, Allah, out of His mercy, will admit those parents into Paradise. And any Muslim who spends a pair of something in the way of Allah, the gatekeepers of Paradise will hasten towards him and call him towards the blessings from their side."

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever has three sons die, and he remains patient, hoping for reward from Allah for the loss of his children, then Paradise becomes obligatory for him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever patiently endures the death of his three sons, hoping for reward, will enter Paradise." A woman asked: "Is this (glad tidings) also for two sons?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes, also for two sons."

Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“The example of a believer and death is like that of a man who has three friends. The first friend says: ‘Take from me whatever you wish.’ The second says: ‘I am with you, but when you die, I will lay you down (in the grave) and separate from you.’ The third says: ‘I am with you and I will go out with you.’ The first friend is wealth, the second is family and children, and the third is deeds.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever spends the night while there is grease from meat on his hand, and because of that he suffers any harm (such as being bitten by an animal, etc.), then he should blame himself."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever offers the funeral prayer in the mosque will not receive any reward."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade women from following funeral processions and said: "There is no reward for them in this matter."

Ziyadah bin ‘Ilaqah narrates from his uncle that Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu‘bah (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke ill of Sayyiduna ‘Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Sayyiduna Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Mughirah! Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade reviling the dead? So why do you insult Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) after his death?
