The story of the people of Najran (Christians)
Narrated by Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him): Two chiefs of Najran, ‘Aqib (Abdul-Masih) and Sayyid (Ayyham), came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with the intention of Mubahalah (mutual invocation of Allah’s curse). (The narrator) says that one of them said to the other,“Do not engage in Mubahalah, because if he is a Prophet and we do Mubahalah with him, by Allah, neither we nor our descendants after us will ever prosper.”Then both of them submitted,“Whatever you demand from us, we will continue to pay, so please send with us a trustworthy person, and do not send with us anyone except an honest (trustworthy) person.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied,“I will send with you a trustworthy person who is truly trustworthy.”The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to look around (to see who would go). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“O Abu ‘Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah! Stand up.”When he stood up, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“This is the trustworthy (reliable and honest) person of this Ummah.”

The coming of the Ash’aris and people of Yemen
Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We, the Ash‘ari group, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and asked him for mounts. He (peace be upon him) refused us. We asked him again for mounts, and he (peace be upon him) swore an oath that he would not give us mounts. Then, shortly after, some camels from the spoils of war came to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he (peace be upon him) ordered that five camels be given to us. When we took those camels, we said: Since we did not remind the Prophet (peace be upon him) of his oath, we will never prosper now. Then I went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! You swore an oath that you would not give us mounts, but then you gave us mounts. The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied:“Yes! I remembered my oath, but if I swear an oath to do something and then I see something else better, I do that which is better and I offer expiation for my oath.”

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "(O people!) The people of Yemen have come to you who are tender-hearted and soft-hearted. Faith is (excellent) from Yemen and wisdom is also good from Yemen. Pride and arrogance are among the camel owners, and calmness and gentleness are among the sheep owners."

About the Farewell Hajj
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), while delivering the sermon during the Farewell Pilgrimage, said:“Time has turned back to its original state which it had on the day Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year is twelve months, of which four are sacred. Three of them are consecutive: (1) Dhu al-Qa'dah, (2) Dhu al-Hijjah, (3) Muharram, and the fourth is Rajab of (the tribe of) Mudar, which comes between Jumada al-Thani and Sha'ban.”Then he said:“What month is this?”We replied,“Allah and His Messenger know best.”He remained silent for a while, so much so that we thought he would give it another name. Then he said:“Is it not the month of Dhu al-Hijjah?”We replied,“Indeed, it is the month of Dhu al-Hijjah.”Then he said:“What city is this?”We replied,“Allah and His Messenger know best.”He again remained silent for a while, and we thought he would give it another name. Then he said:“Is it not the sacred city, i.e., Makkah?”We replied,“Indeed, it is the city of Makkah.”Then he said:“What day is this?”We replied,“Allah and His Messenger know best.”He again remained silent for a while, so much so that we thought he would give it another name. Then he said:“Is it not the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr)?”We replied,“Indeed, it is the Day of Sacrifice.”Then he said:“So listen! Your blood, your wealth, and”—the narrator says,“I think (Abu Bakrah, may Allah be pleased with him) also said—‘your honor are sacred to one another, just as the sanctity of this day, in this city, in this month. And soon you will meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Be alert! Do not turn back after me as disbelievers, striking the necks of one another.’ Let the one who is present convey (this message) to the one who is absent. Sometimes the one to whom the message is conveyed remembers it better than the one who heard it.”(Then he said):“Beware! Have I not conveyed the commands of Allah to you?”He repeated this twice. (Imam Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him, when narrating this hadith, used to say that the noble Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, spoke the truth.)

The hadith of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performing prayer inside the Ka'bah has already been mentioned (see the Book: Description of Prayer... Chapter: Placing doors and chains (locks) in the Ka'bah and mosques). In this narration, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "And near the place where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, there was red marble laid."

The Battle of Tabuk (Battle of Difficulty)
`Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My friends, who had come with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this expedition, sent me to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to ask for mounts. I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! My companions have sent me to you to ask for mounts." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refused and said, "By Allah! I will not mount them on anything." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was already angry, but I did not realize it. I returned very saddened. I was grieved for two reasons: one, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not give us mounts, and the other, that perhaps my asking for mounts had angered the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I went back to my companions and told them what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said. Shortly after, I heard that Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was calling out, "O Abdullah bin Qais!" (which is the name of Sayyiduna Abu Musa). I went to him and he said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is calling you." I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said, "Take these two camels, and these two camels, and these two camels (that is, six camels in total)." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had just bought these camels from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he said, "Take these camels to your companions and tell them that indeed Allah, the Exalted, has said that the Messenger of Allah has given you these camels to ride, so ride them." I took those camels to my companions and said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has given you these camels to ride." But by Allah! I will not leave you until some of you go with me to the person who heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refuse to give mounts, lest you think that I have told you something which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not say." They said to me, "We believe you, and if you think it is good to confirm, we will do so." Then Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) took some of them with him and went to those who had heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say that he had first refused to give mounts and then later granted them. They narrated exactly what Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) had told his companions.

‘It is narrated from the conqueror of Persia, Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for the Battle of Tabuk, he left Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy in Madinah. So he (Ali) said,“Are you leaving me among women and children?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Are you not pleased that your status with me is like that of Harun (Aaron) with Musa (Moses), except that there will be no prophet after me?”
