مختصر صحيح بخاري
Mukhtasar Sahih Bukhari
The Prophet (SAW) sending Usama ibn Zayd (RA) to the tribe of Harqat (a branch of Juhaynah)
Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I participated in jihad seven times along with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and fought nine times with the army dispatched by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Once our commander was Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and once Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him).
The conquest of Mecca in Ramadan
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah in the month of Ramadan with ten thousand companions (towards Makkah), and this incident took place eight and a half years after his arrival in Madinah. When the Muslims and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out towards Makkah, some companions along with him continued to fast. When they reached the place of Kudayd, which is a spring between ‘Usfan and Qudayd, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions broke their fast. (They did iftar.)
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out towards Hunain in the month of Ramadan. The people with him were not all in the same condition; some were fasting and some were not. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mounted his ride, he asked for a vessel of water or milk, placed it on his palm or on the mount, and then drank it. Then he looked towards the people, and those who had not broken their fast, he said to the fasting ones: "You also break your fast (because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has broken his fast)."
Where the Prophet (SAW) planted the flag on the day of the conquest of Mecca
Sayyiduna Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out in the year of the conquest of Makkah, this news reached the Quraysh. Abu Sufyan bin Harb, Hakim bin Hizam, and Budail bin Warqa set out to gather information about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). As they walked, when they reached the place of Marr az-Zahran (which is near Makkah), they saw that many fires were lit, just as they are at Arafah. Abu Sufyan said,“What are these fires? These fires everywhere make the place look like the plain of Arafat.”Budail bin Warqa said,“It must be the fire of Banu Amr (Khuza’ah).”Abu Sufyan said,“Banu Amr do not have so many people.”Meanwhile, the guards of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them and captured them, bringing them to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Sufyan accepted Islam. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, he said to Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him),“Stand Abu Sufyan at the mountain pass so that he may see the army of the Muslims.”Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) made him stand there, and the tribes that were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to pass by Abu Sufyan, tribe by tribe. When one army passed, Abu Sufyan said,“O Abbas! Who are these people?”He replied,“This is the tribe of Ghifar.”Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“There was no enmity between me and Ghifar (then why have they come with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) against me?)”Then the tribe of Juhainah passed, and Abu Sufyan said the same as before. Then the tribe of Sa’d bin Huzaym passed, and Abu Sufyan said the same, and the tribe of Sulaym passed, and Abu Sufyan said the same thing. Then a tribe passed the like of which Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) had not seen before, so he asked,“Who are these people?”Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) replied,“These are the Ansar, their leader is Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), and the flag is with him.”Then Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“O Abu Sufyan! Today is the day of the killing of the disbelievers, today the Ka’bah will become lawful (i.e., the killing of the disbelievers in it will be permissible).”Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“O Abbas! Indeed, the day of destruction has come.”Then an army came which was smaller than all the other armies, among them was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions, and the flag of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was with Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), Abu Sufyan said,“Do you not know what Sa’d bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) has said?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“What did he say?”Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) replied,“He said such and such.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Sa’d has spoken incorrectly, rather today is the day that Allah will honor the Ka’bah, and it is the day that the Ka’bah will be adorned with a covering.”(Urwah) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the flag to be planted at the place of Hajun. So Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him),“O Abu Abdullah! Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) order you to plant the flag at this place?”(Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said that) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to enter from Kada’ (with a fatha on the kaf) from the elevated side of Makkah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself entered from Kada’ (with a kasrah on the kaf) from the lower side. From the army of Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), two horsemen, Hubaysh bin Ash’ar and Kurz bin Jabir Fahri (may Allah be pleased with them both), were martyred that day.
Narrated Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him): On the day of the conquest of Makkah, I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) riding a camel and reciting Surah Al-Fath in a pleasant tone. (Muawiyah bin Qurrah, the student of Abdullah bin Mughaffal) says: If I had not feared that people would gather around me, I would have recited in the same pleasant tone as Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) recited to us.
Narrated Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered Makkah on the day of the conquest of Makkah, and at that time there were three hundred and sixty idols around the Ka'bah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) struck those idols with a stick in his hand and kept saying: "Truth has come and falsehood has vanished." Truth has come; now falsehood will neither be renewed nor will it return.
(Chapter)
Sayyiduna Amr bin Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We used to live by a spring which was a thoroughfare for the people, and riders would pass by us. We would ask those riders about the condition of the people and about this person (who claimed prophethood). The people would reply: He says that Allah has sent me as a Messenger and revelation comes to me, or Allah has revealed such and such revelation to me. So I (Amr bin Salamah) would memorize this revelation, that is, the Qur’anic verses, as if someone had fixed them in my chest. The Arabs were waiting for the conquest of Makkah to become Muslims and used to say: Leave Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his people (i.e., the Quraysh). If Muhammad (peace be upon him) prevails over them, then he is a true Prophet. Then, when Makkah was conquered, every tribe hastened to embrace Islam, and my father outstripped his people in accepting Islam. When my father returned as a Muslim, he said to his people: By Allah! I have come to you from the true Prophet. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“Pray such-and-such prayer at such-and-such time, and such-and-such prayer at such-and-such time, and when the time for prayer comes, let one of you give the adhan, and the one among you who knows the most Qur’an should lead the prayer.”The people of the tribe considered and found no one who knew more Qur’an than me, because I had memorized much from meeting the riders. So they made me their imam, even though I was six or seven years old, and I was only wrapped in a single sheet. When I prostrated, it would shrink (i.e., my private parts would become uncovered). A woman of the tribe said: Why do you not cover your reciter’s private parts from us? So they bought cloth and made a shirt for me. I was never as happy with anything as I was with that shirt.
Explanation of Allah’s saying:“On the day of Hunayn, when you rejoiced at your numbers...”(Surah Tawbah: 25-27)
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that (there was a mark of a sword) on his hand. He said: I received this wound on the day of Hunain while I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
The Battle of Autas
Narrated Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the battle of Hunayn, he appointed Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) as the commander of the army and sent him towards Autas (where the tribe of Hawazin had gathered). Abu Amir confronted Duraid bin Simmah; Duraid was killed and Allah defeated his companions. He further said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had also sent me along with Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). Coincidentally, he was wounded on his knee; a man from the tribe of Jusham shot an arrow at him which lodged in his knee. I went to him and said, "O uncle! Who shot you with the arrow?" He indicated to me by gesture that so-and-so is my killer, the one who shot me. I set out with the intention and reached him. When he saw me, he ran away. I chased after him and said, "(O shameless one!) Aren't you ashamed? Why don't you stop?" Then he stopped. There were two sword strikes between me and him, then I killed him. Then I came back and said to Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), "Allah has destroyed your killer." He said, "Now pull out this arrow." I pulled out the arrow and water started flowing from the wound. Then he said, "O son of my brother! Convey my greetings to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him to seek forgiveness for Abu Amir." Then Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed me as his deputy over the people. After a short while, he was martyred. When I returned from the battle, I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was lying on a bed made of palm fibers, and the marks of the fibers were visible on his blessed side. I related to him the situation of myself and Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), and said that Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) had requested you to pray for his forgiveness. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water, performed ablution, then raised his hands and prayed: "O Allah! Forgive Ubaid Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him)." He raised his hands so much that I saw the whiteness of his armpits. Then he prayed: "O Allah! Raise Abu Amir's rank above many of Your creation on the Day of Resurrection." I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Pray for my forgiveness as well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Forgive Abdullah bin Qais (Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him) his sins and admit him to a good place (in Paradise) on the Day of Resurrection."
The Battle of Ta’if in Shawwal, 8 AH
Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to my house, and at that time a eunuch was sitting with me. I heard him saying to Abdullah bin Abi Umayyah:“O Abdullah! If tomorrow Allah grants victory over Ta’if, then take the daughter of Ghailan, because (she is so fat that) when she comes from the front, (there are) four folds in her belly, and when she turns her back, (there are) eight.”(Upon hearing this) the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“These eunuchs must never come to you (O Umm Salamah!) again.”
