The Battle of Khaybar
Narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him): On the day of Khaybar (the Battle of Khaybar), I received an injury on my shin, so I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He blew over it three times, and after that, I never felt any pain from it until today.
`Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed for three nights between Madinah and Khaybar, and during these nights he spent the wedding night with Umm al-Mu’minin Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her). Then I invited people to the wedding feast (walimah) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). There was neither bread nor meat in it; there was only this, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) to spread a dining cloth. The dining cloth was spread, and then dates, cheese, and clarified butter were placed on it. Then the Muslims began to discuss among themselves whether Safiyyah was among the Mothers of the Believers or a slave woman. Then they themselves said: If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) makes her observe hijab, she will be among the Mothers of the Believers, and if he does not make her observe hijab, she will remain a slave woman. So when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, he made a place for Umm al-Mu’minin Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) to sit behind him and drew a curtain (for her).
It is narrated from Amir al-Mu'minin Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the day of Khaybar (the Battle of Khaybar) forbade temporary marriage with women and eating the meat of donkeys.
Narrated Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Khaybar gave two shares to the horse and one share to the foot soldier from the spoils of war.
`Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When we were in Yemen, news reached us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had left Makkah, so we also set out to migrate towards him (peace be upon him). I and my two brothers, Abu Burdah and Abu Rahm, were with me; I was the youngest of them, and fifty-three (53) men from my people accompanied us. So, we all boarded a ship. By chance, this ship reached the land of the Negus, the king of Abyssinia. There we met Sayyiduna Ja’far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). We stayed with him, then we all set out together and reached the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he had already conquered Khaybar. Other people began to say to us, the people of the ship, that in migration, we have preceded you. And Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her), who had come with us, went as a guest to Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she too had migrated with the emigrants to the land of the Negus. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) while Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) was present with her. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw Asma and asked,“Who is this?”Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied,“This is Asma bint Umais.”He said,“The one who went to the land of Abyssinia and has now come by sea?”Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said,“Yes, I am she.”Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“We have preceded you in migration, so we have more right to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than you.”Hearing this, she became angry and said:“By Allah! Never! You were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he would feed your hungry and advise your ignorant, and we were in the land of strangers and enemies, which is Abyssinia, and all these hardships of ours were in the way of Allah and His Messenger. By Allah! Eating and drinking is forbidden for me until I mention your words to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We were harmed and were always in fear. Soon I will mention this to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and ask him.”By Allah! I will neither lie nor be crooked nor say more than this.”When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived, Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said,“O Prophet of Allah! Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has said such and such.”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked,“What did you reply to him?”She said,“I replied to him in such and such a way.”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“No one has more right than you, for Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions have one migration, and you, the people of the ship, have two migrations.”
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I recognize the voices of the Ash‘ari people when they recite the Qur’an in their homes at night in Madinah, and by the sound of their recitation at night I recognize their dwellings, even though I have not seen the places where they stayed during the day. And among them is a wise man, that when he meets the cavalry of the disbelievers or the enemy, he says to them: My companions command you to wait (to fight) for them.
Narrated Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him): We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) after the conquest of Khaybar, so he gave us a share (from the spoils of Khaybar), and he did not give a share to anyone else who was not present at the time of the conquest.
The Umrah of Qada’
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married Umm al-Mu’minin Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) while he was in the state of Ihram, and after coming out of Ihram, he consummated the marriage with her. Umm al-Mu’minin Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away at Sarif itself (where the marriage had taken place). (Benefit: Umm al-Mu’minin Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), while narrating the story of her own marriage, states that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not in the state of Ihram at that time. (Sahih Muslim) Perhaps Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) received the news later.)
The Battle of Mu’tah in Syria
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) appointed Zaid bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) as the commander in the battle of Mu'tah, then said: "If Zaid is martyred, then Ja'far will be the commander, and if Ja'far is martyred, then Abdullah bin Rawahah will be the commander." Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) says: I was present in that battle. When we searched for Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), we found him among the martyrs, and we saw more than ninety wounds of spears and swords on his body.
The Prophet (SAW) sending Usama ibn Zayd (RA) to the tribe of Harqat (a branch of Juhaynah)
Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent us towards the tribe of Huraqa. In the morning, we attacked that tribe and defeated them. Then I and an Ansari man met a man from the disbelievers. When we surrounded him, he said, "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah). The Ansari stopped, but I killed him with a spear. When we came to Madinah and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard of this, he said, "Usama! Did you kill him after he said 'La ilaha illallah'?" I submitted that he only said it for protection (not from the heart). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) kept repeating this, until I wished that I had not accepted Islam before that day (but had accepted it after, so that this sin of mine would have been forgiven).
