Allah does not accept prayer without ablution.
It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Sa'd that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) came to visit Ibn 'Amir because Ibn 'Amir was ill. Ibn 'Amir said, "O Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), will you not pray for me?" He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Allah does not accept prayer without purification, nor does He accept charity from the spoils of war that is taken before its distribution. And you have been the governor of Basra."

Washing hands before putting them in a vessel after waking up.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you wakes up from sleep, he should wash his hand three times before putting it into the vessel, because he does not know where his hand spent the night.

Prohibition of relieving oneself on pathways and in shade.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Avoid the two acts that bring curses (i.e., those because of which people curse you). The people asked: What are the two acts that bring curses? He (peace be upon him) said: One is relieving oneself on the road (where people pass by), and the other is relieving oneself in a shaded place (where people sit and rest). (Both of these acts cause harm to people, and they will speak ill and curse.)

Covering the private parts while urinating.
‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja’far (may Allah be pleased with him) says that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made me ride behind him on his mount, then he said something in my ear which I will not relate to anyone, and he liked to take cover behind a mound or date-palm trees at the time of relieving himself (so that no one could see his private parts). Ibn Asma’ in one narration said“wall of date-palms”instead of“grove of date-palms”.

What to say when entering the toilet.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the toilet, he would say: "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from male and female devils, or from filth, or impurities, or from devils and sins."

Not facing the Qiblah while relieving oneself.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When you go to the toilet, do not face the Qiblah nor turn your back towards it while urinating or defecating, but rather turn your face towards the east or the west. (This refers to those regions where the Qiblah is towards the north or south. For those whose Qiblah is towards the east or west, they should turn their faces towards the north or south instead of the east or west.) Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then we came to the land of Syria and saw that the latrines (toilets) were built facing the Qiblah, so we would turn our faces away from them and seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

Concession for built toilets.
Wasih bin Haban says: I was praying in the mosque and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was sitting with his back towards the Qiblah. When I finished the prayer, I turned towards him from one side. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: People say that when you sit to relieve yourself, do not face the Qiblah or Bayt al-Maqdis. (Once) I climbed onto the roof and saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sitting for relieving himself facing Bayt al-Maqdis on two bricks (i.e., when facing Bayt al-Maqdis, his back would be towards the Qiblah).

Prohibition of urinating in water and then using it for bathing.
`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: None of you should urinate in standing water (and also do not do this: that after urinating) then perform ghusl (ritual bath) with that water. In another narration, it is stated: Do not do this, that you urinate in standing water which does not flow, and then perform ghusl with that same water.

Avoiding urine and maintaining privacy.
`Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by two graves and said: "These two are being punished, and not for something major. One of them used to carry tales (i.e., spread gossip to cause discord), and the other did not take care to protect himself from urine." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a fresh date-palm branch, split it into two, and placed one piece on each grave. He said: "Perhaps their punishment will be lightened as long as these branches do not dry."
