مختصر صحيح مسلم
Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
Whoever leaves a part unwashed in ablution should wash it and repeat prayer.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) told me that a man performed ablution and left a spot on his foot, the size of a fingernail, dry. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him and said, "Go and perform ablution properly." So he went back, then returned and offered prayer.
How much water suffices for bathing and ablution?
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would perform ablution with one mudd and would perform ghusl with one saa’ up to five mudd. (One saa’ is two and a half kilograms and a“mudd”is a quarter of a saa’.)
Wiping over leather socks (khuffain).
It is narrated from Hammam that Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) urinated, then performed ablution and wiped over his socks. The people said, "Do you do this?" He replied, "Yes, I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) urinate, then perform ablution and wipe over both his socks." A’mash said that Ibrahim said, "This hadith was very pleasing to the people because Jarir became Muslim after Surah Al-Ma'idah (in which washing the feet in ablution is mentioned) was revealed."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Wa'il (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) was extremely strict regarding the matter of urine, to the extent that he used to urinate in a bottle and would say that among the Children of Israel, when urine touched anyone's body, he would cut off the skin (with scissors). Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that I wish Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) would not have been so strict, for I was walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he came to a garbage dump (i.e., a place for rubbish), and stood behind a wall just as any one of you stands, then urinated. I moved away, but he signaled to me to come closer, so I stood by his heels until he finished urinating. In another narration, it is added that then he performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him):
I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey. He asked,“Do you have water with you?”I said,“Yes, I do.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted from his ride and walked away until he disappeared from sight in the dark night. Then he returned, and I poured water for him from a bucket. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his face. He was wearing a woolen cloak, and it was difficult for him to bring his hands out through the sleeves, so he brought his hands out from underneath and washed them, and wiped over his head. Then, when I bent down to remove his leather socks, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Leave them. I put them on in a state of purity,”and he wiped over both of them.

Duration for wiping over socks.
Shuraih bin Hani narrates: I came to Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to ask her about wiping over the socks, so she said: "Ask the son of Abu Talib (that is, Ali, may Allah be pleased with him), for he used to travel with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." We asked him, and he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the duration of wiping for a traveler as three days and three nights, and for a resident as one day and one night."
Wiping over forehead and turban.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed behind during a journey, and I also stayed behind with him. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) finished relieving himself, he asked,“Do you have any water?”So I brought a vessel of water. The Prophet (peace be upon him) washed his hands and face. Then, when he wanted to take his arms out of his sleeves, the sleeves became tight (i.e., he could not take them out), so the Prophet (peace be upon him) took his hand out from below and placed the cloak on his shoulders, and washed both hands, and wiped over his forehead, turban, and leather socks. Then he mounted (his ride), and I also mounted. When we reached our people, they were praying. Sayyiduna ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading them in prayer, and he had already performed one rak‘ah. When he realized that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had arrived, he began to move back. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gestured to him to remain in his place. So he led the prayer. When he finished with the salam, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up, and I also stood up, and we performed the rak‘ah that we had missed before.
Wiping over turban.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped over the socks and the turban.
Praying multiple prayers with one ablution.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed several prayers with one ablution on the day of the conquest of Makkah and wiped over his socks. Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Today you have done something which you have never done before." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "I have done this intentionally."
What to say after ablution.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that we used to herd camels. When it was my turn, I brought the camels back in the evening to their resting place and saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing and giving admonition to the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among the Muslims performs ablution well, then stands and offers two rak‘ahs, focusing his heart and face (i.e., being attentive both outwardly and inwardly, neither letting his heart be distracted by worldly thoughts nor turning his face here and there), Paradise will become obligatory for him. I said,“How excellent is the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (for such a great reward with so little effort)!”At this, someone in front of me said,“The first statement was even better than this.”I looked carefully and saw that it was Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him). He said,“I saw that you have just arrived. (So listen to this as well:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among you performs ablution well and completely, then says (translation): ‘I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger,’ for him the eight gates of Paradise will be opened, and he may enter through whichever gate he wishes.”
