Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
Cleaning with water after relieving oneself.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered a garden and a boy followed behind him. He had a water vessel with him, and that boy was the youngest among us. He placed the vessel near a berry tree, and then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, relieved himself, performed istinja (cleaning) with water, and then came out.
Using odd number of stones for cleaning.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When any of you cleans the place of excretion with stones, he should clean it with an odd number of stones, and when any of you performs ablution, he should put water into his nose and then blow it out.
Cleaning with stones and prohibition of using dung or bones.
Saidna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) says that he was asked, "Did your Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) teach you everything, even the matters of defecation and urination?" He replied, "Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from facing the Qiblah while urinating or defecating, and also forbade us from cleaning ourselves with the right hand, or with less than three stones, or with dung or bones."
Using the skin of dead animals.
`Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says that a slave woman of Umm al-Mu'mineen Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) was given a goat in charity, and it died. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw it lying there and said: Why did you not remove its skin? You could have tanned it and used it. So the people said: O Messenger of Allah! It was dead. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Eating the dead animal is forbidden.
Tanned leather becomes pure.
It is narrated from Yazid bin Abi Habib that Abu'l-Khair told him: I saw Ibn Wahla al-Saba'i wearing a fur coat. I touched it, and he said: Ibn Wahla, why are you touching it (do you consider it impure)? I said to Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): We live in the land of the Maghreb, where there are many Berber disbelievers and fire-worshippers. They bring slaughtered rams to us. We do not eat the animals they slaughter, and they bring skins filled with fat. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: We asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: The skin becomes pure by tanning (i.e., the skin becomes pure by tanning, even if a disbeliever has tanned it).
If a dog licks your vessel, wash it seven times.
‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) says that’ the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs. Then he said,“What is the matter with these people and dogs?”Then he permitted keeping dogs for hunting and for the protection of livestock (that is, for the protection of goats), and said,“When a dog drinks from a vessel by putting its mouth in it, wash it seven times and scrub it with earth the eighth time.”And in the narration of Yahya bin Sa‘id, it is mentioned that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted keeping dogs for hunting, for goats, and for the protection of crops.
Virtue of ablution (wudu).
Sayyiduna Abu Malik Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Purity is half of faith, and "Alhamdulillah" fills the scale (i.e., its reward is so great that it fills the scale of deeds), and "Subhanallah" and "Alhamdulillah" together fill the space between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is light, charity is proof, patience is illumination, and the Qur'an will be an argument for you or against you (if you act upon the Qur'an, it will be an argument in your favor, otherwise it will be a burden against you). Every person (whether good or bad) sets out in the morning and either frees himself (from Allah's punishment by doing good deeds) or destroys himself (by doing bad deeds).
Sins are removed with ablution.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When a servant, a Muslim or a believer (the narrator is unsure), performs ablution and washes his face, all the (minor) sins committed by his eyes come out from his face with the water or with the last drop of water (the narrator is also unsure about this). Then when he washes his hands, every sin committed by his hands comes out from his hands with the water or with the last drop of water. Then when he washes his feet, every sin which he committed by walking with his feet comes out with the water or with the last drop of water, until he emerges purified from all sins.
Using a toothstick (miswak) during ablution.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he spent a night with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). In the latter part of the night, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up, went outside, and looked towards the sky. Then he recited this verse which is in Surah Al-Imran: ((Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night...)) up to ((So protect us from the punishment of the Fire)). Then he returned inside, used the miswak, performed ablution, and stood to pray. Then he lay down, then got up, went outside, looked towards the sky, and recited the same verse. Then he returned inside, used the miswak, performed ablution, and again stood to pray.
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Aisha Siddiqa Tayyiba Tahira (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered the house, he would first use the miswak.
