On gentleness.
Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Gentleness is not found in anything except that it beautifies it, and it is not removed from anything except that it makes it defective.

Punishment for the arrogant.
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with them) say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Honor is Allah Almighty's lower garment and greatness is His cloak (meaning these are His attributes). Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says that whoever tries to take these away from Me, I will punish him."

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah Almighty will neither speak to three persons on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, nor will He look at them (with mercy), and for them is a painful punishment. The first is an old adulterer, the second is a lying king, and the third is an arrogant poor man.

Gentleness and about one whose evil is feared.
Narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man sought permission to enter upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Give him permission, he is a bad person among his people." When he entered, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) spoke to him gently. Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! You said such about him, then you spoke to him gently." So he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Aisha! The worst person in the sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be the one whom people avoid because of his evil."

Seeking refuge when angry.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whom do you consider to be childless? The people said: The one who does not have children (i.e., whose children do not survive). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He is not childless (his children will be there to help him in the Hereafter). Truly childless is the person who has not sent anything ahead from his children (i.e., none of his sons or daughters die before him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Well, whom do you count as a wrestler among you? We said: A wrestler is the one whom men cannot overpower. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, a wrestler is the one who controls himself at the time of anger (i.e., does not say anything against wisdom with his tongue and does not raise his hand against anyone).

Controlling oneself when angry.
Sayedna Sulaiman bin Surad (may Allah be pleased with him) says that two men exchanged insults in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). One of them became angry and his face turned red. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I know a word, if this person says it, his anger will go away. That word is: (A‘udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim)." One of those who heard this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went and told the angry man what the Prophet had said. The man replied, "Do you think I am mad?"

Seeking refuge when angry.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When Allah Almighty made the figure of Adam (peace be upon him) in Paradise, He left it as long as He willed. Satan began to go around it and look at it. Then, when he saw it to be hollow from inside, he recognized that it had been created in such a way that it would not be able to restrain itself (i.e., it would not be able to control itself in desires, anger, and rage, or it would not be able to protect itself from whispers).
