Hadith Number: 51
وعنه رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يتوضا بالمد،‏‏‏‏ ويغتسل بالصاع إلى خمسة امداد. متفق عليه.
Narrated Anas (rad): Allah’s Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) used only one Mudd of water for ablution and one Sa’ to five Mudd of water for his bath [ Agreed upon] .

Hadith Number: 52
وعن عمر رضي الله عنه،‏‏‏‏ قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم:«‏‏‏‏ما منكم من احد يتوضا فيسبغ الوضوء،‏‏‏‏ ثم يقول: اشهد ان لا إله إلا الله،‏‏‏‏ وحده لا شريك له،‏‏‏‏ واشهد ان محمدا عبده ورسوله،‏‏‏‏ إلا فتحت له ابواب الجنة الثمانية،‏‏‏‏ يدخل من ايها شاء» .اخرجه مسلم والترمذي،‏‏‏‏ وزاد:«‏‏‏‏اللهم اجعلني من التوابين واجعلني من المتطهرين» .
Narrated ‘Umar (rad): Allah’s Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said:If one after performing ablution completely recites the following supplication: (Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu) ‘I testify that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah, He is Alone and has no partner and Muhammad ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) is his slave and Messenger’, all the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him and he may enter through any gate he wishes. Reported by Muslim and At-Tirmidhi who added the following words to the supplication: (Allahumma aj’alni minat-tawwabina waj’alni minAl-mutatahhirina)Oh Allah! Include me among those who repent and those who keep themselves pure.

Hadith Number: 53
عن المغيرة بن شعبة رضي الله عنه قال: كنت مع النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم فتوضا فاهويت لانزع خفيه فقال:«‏‏‏‏دعهما فإني ادخلتهما طاهرتين» فمسح عليهما. متفق عليه.
Narrated Mughira bin Shu’ba (rad): Once I was in the company of the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ), he then performed ablution and I dashed to take off his socks. He said,Leave them for I had put them on after performing ablution. So he wiped over them [Agreed Upon] .

وللاربعة عنه إلا النسائي: ان النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم مسح اعلى الخف واسفله. وفي إسناده ضعف.
Narrated by Al-Arba’a except An-Nasa’i: The Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) wiped over the upper part of the leather socks and the under part of it. [In its chain of narrators there is weakness] .

وعن علي رضي الله عنه انه قال: لو كان الدين بالراي لكان اسفل الخف اولى بالمسح من اعلاه،‏‏‏‏ وقد رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يمسح على ظاهر خفيه. اخرجه ابو داود بإسناد حسن.
Narrated ‘Ali (rad): If the religion were based on opinion, it would be more important to wipe over the under parts of the leather socks than the upper, but I have seen Allah’s Messenger (rad) wiping over the upper parts of his leather socks. [Reported by Abu Da’ud with good Isnad (chain of narrators)] .

Hadith Number: 56
وعن صفوان بن عسال رضي الله عنه قال: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يامرنا إذا كنا سفرا ؛ ان لا ننزع خفافنا ثلاثة ايام ولياليهن إلا من جنابة،‏‏‏‏ ولكن من غائط وبول ونوم. اخرجه النسائي والترمذي،‏‏‏‏ واللفظ له،‏‏‏‏ وابن خزيمة وصححاه.
Narrated Safwan bin ‘Assal (rad): When we were on a journey, the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) used to command us to wear our leather socks for three days and three nights, whether we had to answer the call of nature or slept. However, in case of ejaculation or sexual impurity, he commanded us to remove the leather socks. [Reported by An-Nasa’i and At-Tirmidhi, version is of the latter. With them Ibn Khuzaima graded it Sahih (sound)] .

وعن علي بن ابي طالب رضي الله عنه قال: جعل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ثلاثة ايام ولياليهن للمسافر،‏‏‏‏ ويوما وليلة للمقيم،‏‏‏‏ يعني في المسح على الخفين. اخرجه مسلم.
Narrated ‘Ali (rad): The Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) fixed the period of Mash (wiping) over the leather socks (Khifaf – plural of Khuff) for three days and nights for a traveller and one day and a night for the resident person in a town [Reported by Muslim] .

Hadith Number: 58
وعن ثوبان رضي الله عنه قال: بعث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم سرية فامرهم ان يمسحوا على العصائب،‏‏‏‏ يعني العمائم والتساخين،‏‏‏‏ يعني الخفاف. رواه احمد وابو داود،‏‏‏‏ وصححه الحاكم.
Narrated Thawban (rad): Allah’s Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) sent out a military expedition and commanded them to wipe over the turbans and leather socks. [ Reported by Ahmad and Abu Da’ud. Al-Hakim graded it Sahih (sound)] .

Hadith Number: 59
وعن عمر رضي الله عنه موقوفا،‏‏‏‏ وعن انس مرفوعا: «‏‏‏‏إذا توضا احدكم فلبس خفيه فليمسح عليهما،‏‏‏‏ وليصل فيهما،‏‏‏‏ ولا يخلعهما إن شاء إلا من الجنابة» .‏‏‏‏ اخرجه الدارقطني والحاكم وصححه.
Narrated ‘Umar (rad), in a Mawquf (untraceable) and Anas in a Marfu (traceable) Hadith:If one of you performs ablution and puts on his two leather socks, let him perform Mash (wipe) over them and pray in them and he may not take them off he so wishes except after ejaculation or sexual impurity. [Reported by Ad-Daraqutni and Al-Hakim and graded Sahih (sound) by him] .

وعن ابي بكرة رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: انه رخص للمسافر ثلاثة ايام ولياليهن،‏‏‏‏ وللمقيم يوما وليلة،‏‏‏‏ إذا تطهر فلبس خفيه: ان يمسح عليهما. اخرجه الدارقطني وصححه ابن خزيمة.
Narrated Abu Bakra (rad): The Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) gave permission for the traveller to perform Mash (wiping) over his leather socks for three days and nights and for a non-traveller for a day and night, if he had put them on in a state of purity. [Reported by Ad-Daraqutni and graded Sahih (sound) by Ibnn Khuzaima] .
