Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that I once fell ill, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to visit me. Both of them were on foot. They found me in a state of unconsciousness. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed ablution, then poured the leftover water from his ablution over me, and I regained consciousness. When I looked, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was present. I said: O Messenger of Allah! What should I do about my wealth? And how should I decide? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not give me any answer until the verse of inheritance was revealed.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a child of the beloved daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyida Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), became severely ill. She sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that my child (Ali) is at the throes of death. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the messenger: "Go and tell her: Indeed, whatever Allah takes belongs to Him, and whatever He gives belongs to Him, and everything with Him has an appointed term. She should be patient and hope for reward." When the messenger conveyed this message to Sayyida Zainab, she sent the messenger again, saying that your daughter swears that you must come. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up with a group of companions, among whom was Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took the child and held him to his chest, and the child's chest was rattling like a water-skin. Seeing this state, tears flowed from the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You are the Messenger of Allah, yet you weep?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "I am weeping due to mercy and compassion. Indeed, Allah only shows mercy to those of His servants who are merciful."

It is narrated from Ibrahim bin Abi Ablah (may Allah have mercy on him), he said: My wife fell ill, so I used to visit Sayyidah Umm Darda (may Allah be pleased with her), and she would ask me: How is your wife? I would say to her: She is still ill, so she would have food brought for me and I would eat. Then I would come again and she would do the same. Once I came to her and, as usual, she asked: How is your wife? I said: She is much better. She said: When you used to tell me that your wife was ill, I would have food brought for you, but now since she is better (and can cook food), we will not have anything brought for you.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went to visit a Bedouin who was ill. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There is no harm and no fear for you; this illness is a means of purification from sins, if Allah wills." The narrator says that the Bedouin replied: "No, rather it is a fever that is boiling in an old man so that it may take him to the graveyard." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Then it will be as you say."

It is narrated from the three sons of Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that in Makkah Mukarramah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill, and he began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Why are you weeping?”He replied: I fear that I will die in the land from which I migrated, just as Sa’d bin Khawlah (may Allah be pleased with him) died. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed: «اللَّهُمَّ اشْفِ سَعْدًا» “O Allah, grant Sa’d healing.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed three times. He said: I have abundant wealth, and my only heir is my daughter. Should I bequeath all my wealth in the way of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“No.”He asked: Two-thirds? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“No.”He said: Half of it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“No.”He said: May I bequeath one-third? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Bequeath one-third, and even one-third is much. Giving charity from your wealth is charity, spending on your family is also charity, and whatever your wife eats from your food is also charity for you. And if you leave your family well-off when you depart from this world, it is far better than leaving them in such a state that they have to stretch out their hands before people.”And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand.
