Zirr bin Hubaish says that (Ibn Jurmuz sought permission to enter upon Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him. Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, asked, "Who is it?") The people informed him that Ibn Jurmuz wanted to come in. He said: Let him come in. The killer of Sayyiduna Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him, will enter Hell. I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Every prophet has a special disciple, and my disciple is Zubair."

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once gifted me two slaves, and they were brothers. I sold one of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Take him back."

Fadala—whose father, Sayyiduna Abu Fadala Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), was among the Badri Companions—says that once I went with my father to visit Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) during his illness. He had become somewhat ill and was feeling heavy because of it. My father said to him, "What has this illness done to you? If your final time comes, no one except the villagers of Juhaina will come to you to take you to Madinah Munawwarah. Therefore, if your final time draws near, your companions should take care of you and should perform your funeral prayer." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has informed me that I will not die until I become a caliph, and after that, this beard will be dyed with the blood of this head." And so it happened: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred during his caliphate, while Sayyiduna Abu Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) participated in jihad with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and was martyred at the time of the Battle of Siffin.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say the opening takbeer, after reciting the thana, he would say: «وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ اَللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ اصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ» "I have turned my face, being upright and in submission, towards Him Who created the heavens and the earth, and I am not among the polytheists. My prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. He has no partner. This is what I have been commanded, and I am among the Muslims. O Allah! You are the true King, there is no deity except You, You are my Lord and I am Your servant. I have wronged myself, and I confess my sins, so forgive all my sins, for none forgives sins except You. Guide me to the best of character, for none guides to the best of character except You, and turn me away from bad character, for none can turn me away from it except You. I am present before You and at Your service. All kinds of good are in Your hands, and evil cannot approach You. I belong to You and will return to You. You are Most Blessed and Most Exalted. I seek Your forgiveness for my sins and I repent to You." When he would go into ruku, he would say: «اَللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعِظَامِي وَعَصَبِي» "O Allah! I have bowed to You, I have believed in You, I have submitted to You. My hearing, my sight, my mind, my bones, and my tendons are all humbled before You." When he would rise from ruku, after saying 'Sami Allahu liman hamidah' and 'Rabbana wa lakal hamd', he would say: «لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ» "All praise is for You, filling the heavens, the earth, and whatever is between them, and whatever else You will to fill." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go into prostration, he would say: «اَللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ فَأَحْسَنَ صُوَرَهُ فَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ فَتَبَارَكَ اللّٰهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ» "O Allah! I have prostrated for You, I have believed in You, I have submitted to You. My face has prostrated before the One Who created it and fashioned it well, and gave it hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators." And when he would finish the prayer with salam, he would say: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ» "O Allah! Forgive all my past and future, hidden and apparent sins, and whatever excess I have committed, and whatever You know better than I do. You are the First and the Last, and there is no deity except You."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not permissible for any Muslim that after three days, even a little of his sacrificial meat remains in his house." Benefit: This ruling was later abrogated.

Once, Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of the death of Abu Talib. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and hide him in a pit, and do not do any other work before coming to me." So when I had placed him in a pit and returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said to me: "Go and perform ghusl (ritual bath), and do not do any other work before coming to me." So I performed ghusl and presented myself in the court of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me so many supplications that I would not have been as happy to receive red or black camels in exchange. The narrator says that after this, whenever Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave ghusl to a deceased person, he would also perform ghusl himself.
