Once, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) flogged Shurahah on Thursday and stoned her to death on Friday, and said: I flogged her because of the Noble Qur'an and stoned her because of the Sunnah.

Abdullah bin Salamah says that once I and two other men, one of whom was from my tribe and the other from Banu Asad, were sent ahead by Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said, "You both are still inexperienced, so practice to understand the religion." Then he went to the toilet, relieved himself, and when he came out, he took a handful of water and wiped it over his face, and began to recite the Qur'an. When he saw that we were surprised at this, he said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would also begin to recite the Noble Qur'an after coming out from relieving himself, and he would eat meat with us as well. Nothing except major ritual impurity (janabah) could prevent him from reciting the Noble Qur'an."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me while I was ill, and I was making this supplication: "O Allah! If the time of my death is near, then grant me relief from this illness and call me to Yourself. If it is delayed, then raise me up, and if this is a trial, then grant me patience." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What are you saying?" I repeated my words. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck me with his foot, expressing displeasure, and supplicated: «”اَللّٰهُمَّ عَافِهِ أَوْ اَللّٰهُمَّ اشْفِهِ“ شَكَّ شُعْبَةُ» "O Allah! Grant him well-being and healing." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that after that, I never suffered that pain again.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Witr does not have definitive proof from the Noble Qur’an like the obligatory prayers, but its obligation is established from the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so do not abandon it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed ten types of people: the one who consumes usury, the one who gives it to others, the one who writes usurious transactions, the witnesses to usurious transactions, the one who performs Halalah, the one for whom Halalah is performed, the one who withholds Zakat, the one who tattoos, and the one who gets tattooed. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I used to visit the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) daily. If I wanted to enter the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he was praying, he would cough, and when he was silent, I would not enter the house. Once, I visited at night, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and said, "A strange incident happened tonight. I felt someone's movement in the house, so I became anxious and came out, and there was Jibreel (peace be upon him) standing in front of me. I asked him, 'Why did you not come inside the house?' He said, 'A dog has entered your room from somewhere, so I cannot come inside.' And indeed, under Hasan's chair, there was a puppy. And he said, 'The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog, a person in a state of major impurity, or a picture.'"

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that I used to suffer frequently from the discharge of madhiy (pre-seminal fluid). I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about it, so he (peace be upon him) said: "If semen is discharged, then perform ghusl just as you do in the case of janabah (major ritual impurity), and if it is not so, then there is no need to perform ghusl."

Tariq bin Ziyad says that we went out with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to fight the Khawarij. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) fought them and said: "Behold! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Soon a people will emerge who will speak correct words but it will not go beyond their throats. They will go out from the truth just as an arrow goes out from the prey. Their sign will be that among them there will be a man whose hand will be incomplete, and in his hand (palm) there will be black hair.'" Now, if this is the case, then you have purified the world from the existence of the worst man, and if it is not so, then you have killed the best man. Hearing this, we began to weep. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Search for him." So we searched for him and found a man with a defective hand. Upon seeing him, we fell into prostration, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also prostrated with us. However, he also said that their words were correct.
