It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that once someone asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! After you, whom should we appoint as our leader? He replied: "If you appoint Abu Bakr as leader, you will find him trustworthy, disinterested in the world, and eager for the Hereafter. If you appoint Umar as leader, you will find him strong and trustworthy; he does not care about the blame of any blamer in the matter of Allah. And if you appoint Ali as leader—but I think you will not do so—you will find him a guide and rightly guided, who will lead you on the straight path."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) would recite the Noble Qur’an, he would keep his voice low, whereas Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) would recite the Noble Qur’an in a loud voice, and Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) would sometimes recite from one surah and sometimes from another. When this was mentioned before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him),“Why do you keep your voice low?”He replied,“I make the One I am supplicating to hear me.”When he asked Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about reciting in a loud voice, he replied,“I drive away Satan and wake up those who are sleeping.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him),“Why do you sometimes recite from one surah and sometimes from another?”He replied,“Have you ever heard me mixing one surah with another?”He said,“No, all are correct in their own way.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the funeral of Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) was brought and placed between the pulpit and the blessed chamber. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Discharge of madhiy (pre-seminal fluid) would occur frequently from my body. I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "Do not do that. When you see madhiy, wash your private part and perform wudu (ablution) as you do for prayer, and if semen is discharged, then perform ghusl."
