It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that his maternal aunt, Sayyidah Umm Hufaid (may Allah be pleased with her), presented clarified butter, lizard, and cheese as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate some of the clarified butter and cheese, but left the lizard due to dislike. However, others ate it from the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) dining mat. If eating it had been forbidden, it would never have been eaten at the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) dining mat.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whatever Allah wills and whatever you will." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you making me equal to Allah? Rather say: Whatever Allah alone wills."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the morning of Muzdalifah, while on his mount, said to me: "Come here and pick up pebbles for me." I picked up some pebbles that were like date stones. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took them in his hand and said: "Yes! Pebbles should be like this. Beware of exaggeration in religion, for those before you were destroyed because of exaggeration in religion."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the command for changing the Qiblah was revealed, the people said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What will happen to our companions who used to pray facing Bayt al-Maqdis and passed away in that state?" Upon this, the following verse was revealed: «﴿وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ﴾ [البقرة: 143] » "Allah will not let your prayers go to waste."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the custom of women wearing a waistband was first transferred from the mother of Hazrat Ismail (peace be upon him); she used to tie a waistband in front of Hazrat Sarah (may Allah be pleased with her) to erase her traces. Then the narrator mentioned the complete hadith. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) further said: May Allah's mercy descend upon the mother of Ismail (peace be upon him); if she had left Zamzam as it was, it would have become a flowing spring. He says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "This situation happened with the mother of Ismail; she loved people, so the caravan people camped there and called their other family members as well, and they started living with them . . . . ." Then the narrator also said that when the mother of Ismail (peace be upon him) descended from Safa and reached the low-lying area, she lifted the hem of her shirt and began to run quickly like a person in distress, and after crossing that low area, she reached Marwah and stood there looking to see if any human could be seen or not. But she did not see anyone. She circled in this way seven times, and this is the beginning of Sa'i.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the Quranic verse: «﴿وَإِذْ يَمْكُرُ بِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا﴾ [الأنفال: 30] » "And [remember] when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you..." that once, at night, the Quraysh consulted together in Makkah. Some said: "In the morning, shackle Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in chains." Some said: "Kill him." And some advised to expel him. Allah Almighty informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of the polytheists' plotting. So that night, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) slept on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) bed, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left there and went to prayer. The polytheists kept watch all night, thinking Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and at dawn they attacked, but found Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) there. Thus Allah returned their plot upon themselves. They said: "Where is your companion?" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "I do not know." Then they set out searching for the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) footprints. When they reached the mountain, they became confused. They climbed the mountain and also passed by the cave (where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had taken refuge), but at the mouth of the cave they saw a spider's web. Seeing this, they said: "If he were here, there would not be a spider's web at the mouth of the cave." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in that cave for three days.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It is not appropriate for any prophet to say that I am better than Yunus bin Matta, peace be upon him. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: "The grass here shall not be cut, the trees here shall not be cut, the game here shall not be chased, and the fallen property here shall not be picked up, except by one who announces it and delivers it to its owner." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Please make an exception for the grass called 'izkhir.' So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made an exception for it and said: "Except for izkhir, for it is permissible."

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to command the killing of snakes and would say that whoever leaves them due to fear or apprehension of any of their effects is not from among us.
