Tawoos (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I was with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), and Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "Do you give the fatwa to a menstruating woman that she can return before performing the Farewell Tawaf?" He replied, "Yes!" Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Do not give this fatwa." He said, "As for not giving the fatwa, then you may ask such-and-such Ansari woman whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her this command?" Later, Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) laughing and said, "I consider you truthful indeed."

Abu Hazir, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once a man asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, about the jug in which nabidh is made. He replied that Allah and His Messenger have forbidden it. That man then went to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, and also mentioned the answer of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said that he has spoken the truth. The man asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, from what kind of jug did the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prohibit its use? He replied: Every jug that is made from baked clay.

Ata bin Abi Rabah, may Allah have mercy on him, says that we were present at a place called Sarf at the funeral of Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyida Maymunah, may Allah be pleased with her, along with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: This is Sayyida Maymunah, may Allah be pleased with her. When you lift her bier, do not move the bed quickly nor shake it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had nine pure wives, of whom he used to give turns to eight (among them was Sayyida Maymunah, may Allah be pleased with her), and one wife (with her permission and consent) did not have a turn. Ata says that the wife whose turn was not fixed was Sayyida Safiyyah, may Allah be pleased with her. (But according to the majority of researchers, it was Sayyida Sawdah, may Allah be pleased with her. And Allah knows best).

Ata bin Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the maternal aunt of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), passed away. I went with him to the place of Sarif. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), after praising and glorifying Allah, said: "This is Umm al-Mu'mineen. When you lift her bier, do not move the bed quickly nor shake it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had nine pure wives, of whom he used to give turns to eight (Sayyidah Maymunah was among them), and one wife (with her permission and consent) did not have a turn."
Ibn Abi Mulaikah says that during the illness of death of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) sought permission to enter. Her nephews were with her. I said to her nephew that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) is seeking permission to enter. Her nephew leaned in and asked Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and she said, "Let it be (I do not have the strength)." He said, "Mother! Ibn Abbas is your very righteous son; he wants to greet you and bid you farewell." She gave permission. He came in and said, "Glad tidings to you! Only so much time remains between you and meeting your companions as it takes for the soul to depart from the body. Among all the pure wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him), you were the most beloved, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) loved only that which was pure. On the night of Al-Abwa, your necklace broke and fell. The Prophet (peace be upon him) camped there, but in the morning, the Muslims had no water. Allah, through your blessing, revealed the command of tayammum with pure earth, in which Allah granted concession to this Ummah. And verses of the Noble Qur'an were revealed about you, which Jibreel Amin (peace be upon him) brought from above the seven heavens. Now, there is no mosque of the Muslims where your excuse is not recited day and night." Hearing this, she said, "O Ibn Abbas! Leave these praises of mine. By Allah! My wish is that I had become a forgotten tale."

Tawoos (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the greatest scholar among the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), (Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both), informed me (that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said): "For any one of you to present his land to his brother as a gift is better than that he should take a specified rent from him for it."

Yazid bin Hurmaz says that once Najdah bin Amir asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about killing children. He replied in writing: You have asked me whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ever killed any child among the polytheists? So remember! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not kill any of their children, and you should not kill anyone either. However, if you come to know about a child in the same way as Khidr (peace be upon him) came to know about that child whom he killed, then that is a different matter (and this is not possible for you).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers in Madinah Munawwarah. I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) what was the purpose of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in doing so? He replied that the purpose of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was that his Ummah should not be in difficulty.
