Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that I have preserved all the Sunnahs of the Prophet (peace be upon him), but there are three things I do not know: The first is whether the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite (audibly) in Zuhr and Asr or not? And I also do not know how the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to pronounce this word: «وَقَدْ بَلَغْتُ مِنْ الْكِبَرِ عُتِيًّا» (with a dhamma on ‘Ain and with a Ta) or «عُسُيًّا» (with a dhamma on ‘Ain and with a Seen)? The third thing the narrator forgot.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Quraysh demanded from the Prophet (peace be upon him) to supplicate to his Lord to turn the mountain of Safa into gold for them, and to remove the other mountains so that they could cultivate the land, and they said, "We will believe in you." (The Prophet [peace be upon him] said: "Will you really believe?" They said: "Yes!" The Prophet [peace be upon him] supplicated, and Jibreel [peace be upon him] appeared and said: "Your Lord sends you greetings and says:) 'If you wish, wait, and if you wish, the mountain of Safa will be turned into gold for them, but after that, if any of them disbelieves, then I will destroy them as I destroyed the former peoples.'" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "I will wait." Then Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: «﴿وَمَا مَنَعَنَا أَنْ نُرْسِلَ بِالْآيَاتِ إِلَّا أَنْ كَذَّبَ بِهَا الْأَوَّلُونَ وَآتَيْنَا ثَمُودَ النَّاقَةَ مُبْصِرَةً﴾ [الإسراء: 59] » "Nothing prevents Us from sending the signs except that the former peoples denied them. So We gave Thamud the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the name of Sayyidah Juwayriyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was Barrah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not like this name and changed it to Juwayriyyah. The reason for this dislike was that it might be said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is coming from Barrah." The narrator says that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left after prayer and came to Sayyidah Juwayriyyah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyidah Juwayriyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! After you left, I have been sitting here continuously." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "After I left you, I said a few words which, if weighed, would outweigh all the glorifications you have recited, and those words are: «سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ اللّٰهُ سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ رِضَاءَ نَفْسِهِ سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ زِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ مِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ.» "
