Hadith Number: 3687
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Taking bad omens is shirk. There is none among us except that sometimes he is affected by it, but Allah removes it through reliance (tawakkul) upon Him."
Hadith Number: 3688
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was walking with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a field in Madinah Munawwarah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking, leaning on his staff. While walking, we passed by a group of Jews. They began saying to one another, "Ask him about the soul," but some among them forbade the others from asking. In short, they asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the soul and said, "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), what is the soul?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood, leaning on his staff, and I realized that revelation was descending upon him. When that state ended, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: «﴿وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الرُّوحِ قُلِ الرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّي وَمَا أُوتِيتُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا﴾ [الإسراء: 85] » "They ask you concerning the soul. Say: The soul is of the command of my Lord, and you have been given only a little knowledge." Hearing this, they began saying to one another, "Did we not say, do not ask him?"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I declare disassociation from the friendship of every friend; if I were to take anyone as a close friend (khalil), I would have taken Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) as my close friend. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that if several slaves from the same family came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) would give them all together to one household, because he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked causing separation among them.

Huzail bin Shurahbeel says that once a man came to Sayyiduna Abu Musa and Sayyiduna Salman bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with them) and asked them this issue: If a person’s heirs include a daughter, a granddaughter, and a real sister, how will the inheritance be distributed? Both of them replied that half of the total wealth will go to the daughter and the other half to the sister, and you should also go to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) and ask him this issue; he will agree with and support us. So that man went to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him the issue and also mentioned the answer of the aforementioned gentlemen. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If I also give the same verdict, then I will go astray and will not remain among the rightly guided. I will give the same decision that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave: the daughter will get half of the total wealth, the granddaughter will get one-sixth so that two-thirds are completed, and whatever remains will go to the sister.
