Hafs bin Asim says that once I was traveling with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), he performed the Zuhr and Asr prayers as two rak'ahs each, then stood on his mat and saw some people offering voluntary prayers after the obligatory prayer. He asked, "What are these people doing?" I told him that they are offering voluntary prayers. He said, "If I were to offer voluntary prayers, would I not complete my obligatory prayer (why would I shorten it)?" I had the honor of accompanying the Prophet (peace be upon him) until his passing, and he never offered more than two rak'ahs, and likewise with Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them).

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade «حنتم» , which means a pitcher, and also forbade «مزفت» , which refers to a vessel made of luk. He also forbade «دباء» , which means gourd, and «نقير» , which means the date-palm wood that is hollowed out from inside. The narrator asked, "Then in which vessel do you command us to drink water?" He replied, "In water skins." According to the narrator Muhammad, he commanded us to prepare nabidh in water skins.

Wabra reports that a man asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that if I have put on the Ihram for Hajj, can I perform Tawaf of the House of Allah? He replied: What is the harm in that? The man said: Actually, so-and-so forbids this until the people return from the“Mauqif,”and I see that the world is flocking to him, but we like you more. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put on the Ihram for Hajj and also performed Tawaf of the House of Allah and performed Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and following the Sunnah of Allah and His Messenger is more deserving than following the Sunnah of so-and-so’s son, provided you are truthful in what you say about this.
