Musnad of Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith Number: 5375
Sa’d bin Ubaidah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I and Muhammad Kindi were sitting with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). After a little while, I got up from there and went to sit with Sa’eed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him). Meanwhile, my companion came; the color of his face had changed and it was pale yellow. As soon as he arrived, he said,“Come with me.”I said,“I was just sitting with you.”Sa’eed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) said,“Go with your companion.”So I stood up. He said to me,“Did you hear what Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said?”I asked,“What did he say?”He said that a man came to him and said,“O Abu Abdur Rahman! If I swear by the Ka’bah, will there be any sin upon me?”He replied,“What need do you have to swear by the Ka’bah? If you must swear by the Ka’bah, then swear by the Lord of the Ka’bah, because Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to swear by saying «كلا وابي» . One day, even in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he swore this oath, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Do not swear by your father or by anything other than Allah, for whoever swears by other than Allah commits shirk (associating partners with Allah).’”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that two men brought their dispute to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the claimant for witnesses, but he had no witnesses. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) demanded an oath from the defendant. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have sworn the oath, but due to the sincerity in your saying «لا اله الا الله» , all your sins have been forgiven."

Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to us. We hoped that he would narrate excellent hadiths to us, but before he could, a man—whose name was Hakam—spoke up and said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman! What is your opinion about fighting during the days of tribulation (fitnah)?" He replied, "May your mother weep for you! Do you know what fitnah is? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fight the polytheists, and entering among them or into their religion was fitnah. It was not like today, when you fight for the sake of government."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once I participated in a jihad with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). During the battle, people became frightened and began to flee; I was among them. Later, we began to wonder what would happen now? We had turned our backs and fled from the battlefield and returned with the wrath of Allah. Then we said, let us go to Madinah and spend the night there. We will present ourselves before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). If this is accepted, then very good; otherwise, we will set out again for fighting. So, before the Fajr prayer, we presented ourselves before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out of the house and said: "Who are you people?" We replied, "Those who fled." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "No, rather you are those who return to attack. I am a group among you, and I am a whole group among the Muslims." Then we went forward and kissed the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
