Benefits and Rulings from Hadith No. 48 in Sunan Ibn Majah
Benefits and Rulings by Maulana Ataullah Sajid – Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith No. 48

Benefits & Rulings:

➊ "Jadal" refers to arguing falsely and engaging in discussion that is against the truth.

➋ Allah Almighty sent the noble Prophets (peace be upon them) so that they may distinguish between truth and falsehood. After their arrival, some people accepted faith while others, despite the truth being clear, stubbornly clung to falsehood. Among those who accept faith, some possess strong and complete belief, while others are weak in faith. The danger with such weak believers is that they may once again fall into misguidance. Therefore, the believers should continually pray for steadfastness so that they may die upon faith.

➌ Sometimes, the future generations of those with strong faith can turn out to have weak faith, or even be deprived of faith altogether. These individuals, for the sake of worldly benefits, consider it necessary to be called Muslims, yet they lack the courage to act upon the teachings of Islam in their true spirit. Consequently, they attempt to justify their wrongful actions by misinterpreting verses of the Qur’an or Hadith. In doing so, they seek to satisfy their conscience and silence their critics. However, because their arguments are weak, this opens the door to endless debates and discussions. Their self-serving attitude results in the disintegration of unity within the Ummah.

➍ The natural and correct way to end such disputes is to engage in discussion with sincerity and a genuine desire to find the truth. Once the truth becomes evident in any matter, it should be accepted wholeheartedly.
