Introduction
باب في فَضْلِ الْعِلْمِ وَالْعَالِمِ:
Chapter: The Virtue of Knowledge and the Scholar
Hadith Number: 349
اخبرنا الحكم بن المبارك، اخبرنا الوليد بن مسلم، اخبرنا الوليد بن سليمان، عن علي بن يزيد، عن القاسم ابي عبد الرحمن، عن ابي امامة رضي الله عنه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: "ستكون فتن يصبح الرجل فيها مؤمنا، ويمسي كافرا، إلا من احياه الله بالعلم".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon there will be so many tribulations that a person will be a believer in the morning and become a disbeliever by evening, except for the one whom Allah keeps alive with knowledge."

Hadith Number: 350
اخبرنا ابو المغيرة، حدثنا الاوزاعي، حدثني هارون بن رئاب، عن عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه، انه كان يقول: "اغد عالما او متعلما، ولا تغد فيما بين ذلك، فإن ما بين ذلك جاهل، وإن الملائكة تبسط اجنحتها للرجل غدا يبتغي العلم من الرضاء بما يصنع".
Harun bin Rabab said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "Become a scholar or a learner, and do not be among those in between, for those in between are ignorant. Indeed, the angels, pleased with the action of a person who sets out to seek knowledge, spread their wings for him."

Hadith Number: 351
اخبرنا ابو المغيرة، حدثنا الاوزاعي، عن الحسن، قال: سئل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، عن رجلين كانا في بني إسرائيل: احدهما كان عالما يصلي المكتوبة، ثم يجلس فيعلم الناس الخير، والآخر يصوم النهار ويقوم الليل، ايهما افضل؟، قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "فضل هذا العالم الذي يصلي المكتوبة ثم يجلس فيعلم الناس الخير، على العابد الذي يصوم النهار ويقوم الليل، كفضلي على ادناكم رجلا".
Imam Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It was asked from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about two men from the Children of Israel. One of them was a scholar who would pray and then sit and teach people goodness, and the other was a man who would fast during the day and stand in prayer at night. Which of these two is superior?
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The superiority of the scholar who prays and then sits and teaches people goodness over the worshipper who fasts during the day and stands in prayer at night is like my superiority over the least of you."

Hadith Number: 352
اخبرنا الحسن بن الربيع، عن عبد الله بن عبيد الله، عن الحسن بن ذكوان، عن ابن سيرين، قال: "دخلت المسجد، فإذا الاسود بن سريع يقص، وحميد بن عبد الرحمن يذكر العلم في ناحية المسجد، فميلت إلى ايهما اجلس، فنعست، فاتاني آت، فقال: ميلت إلى ايهما تجلس؟ إن شئت اريتك مكان جبرائيل عليه السلام من حميد بن عبد الرحمن".
Imam Ibn Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, said: I entered the mosque (and saw) that Aswad bin Sari’ was narrating stories, and Humaid bin Abdur Rahman was engaged in scholarly discussion in a corner of the mosque. I was hesitant about which gathering to join. I became drowsy, and someone came and said: Are you hesitant about where to sit? If you wish, I can show you the place where Jibreel (peace be upon him) sits in the gathering of Humaid bin Abdur Rahman.

Hadith Number: 353
اخبرنا نصر بن علي، حدثنا عبد الله بن داود، عن عاصم بن رجاء بن حيوة، عن داود بن جميل، عن كثير بن قيس، قال: كنت جالسا مع ابي الدرداء رضي الله عنه في مسجد دمشق، فاتاه رجل، فقال: يا ابا الدرداء، إني اتيتك من المدينة، مدينة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم لحديث بلغني عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: فما جاء بك تجارة؟، قال: لا، قال: ولا جاء بك غيره؟، قال: لا، قال: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: "من سلك طريقا يلتمس به علما، سهل الله به طريقا من طرق الجنة، وإن الملائكة لتضع اجنحتها رضا لطالب العلم، وإن طالب العلم، ليستغفر له من في السماء والارض حتى الحيتان في الماء، وإن فضل العالم على العابد كفضل القمر على سائر النجوم، إن العلماء هم ورثة الانبياء، إن الانبياء لم يورثوا دينارا، ولا درهما، وإنما ورثوا العلم، فمن اخذ به اخذ بحظه، او بحظ وافر".
Kathir bin Qais said: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque of Damascus when a man came to him and said: O Abu Darda’! I have come to you from Madinat al-Rasul (the city of the Messenger, peace be upon him) for the sake of a hadith which I have been informed that you narrate from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Have you come for trade? He said: No. He said: Has anything else brought you here? He said: No. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say:“Whoever sets out on a path seeking knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him because of it. And indeed, the angels, being pleased with the seeker of knowledge, lower their wings for him. And indeed, those in the heavens and the earth seek forgiveness for the seeker of knowledge, even the fish in the water seek forgiveness for him. And indeed, the superiority of the scholar over the worshipper is like the superiority of the moon over all the stars. Indeed, the scholars are the heirs of the prophets. The prophets did not leave behind dinars or dirhams as inheritance, but rather they left behind knowledge. So whoever acquires it has acquired a great share or an abundant share.”

Hadith Number: 354
اخبرنا اخبرنا محمد بن عيينة، عن ابي إسحاق الفزاري، عن الاعمش، عن شمر بن عطية، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما، قال: "معلم الخير يستغفر له كل شيء، حتى الحوت في البحر".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Everything seeks forgiveness for the one who teaches goodness, even the fish in the sea.

Hadith Number: 355
اخبرنا احمد بن عبد الله بن يونس، حدثنا زائدة، عن الاعمش، عن ابي صالح، عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "ما من رجل يسلك طريقا يطلب فيه علما، إلا سهل الله له به طريقا إلى الجنة، ومن ابطا به عمله، لم يسرع به نسبه".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever treads a path in search of knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him through it, and whoever is slowed down by his deeds, his lineage will not speed him up."

Hadith Number: 356
اخبرنا اخبرنا إسماعيل بن ابان، عن يعقوب هو القمي، عن هارون بن عنترة عن ابيه، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنه، قال: "ما سلك رجل طريقا يبتغي فيه العلم، إلا سهل الله له به طريقا إلى الجنة، ومن يبطئ به عمله، لم يسرع به نسبه".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: No person sets out on a path in search of knowledge except that Allah Almighty makes the path to Paradise easy for him through it, and whoever is delayed by his deeds, his deeds will not hasten him forward.

Hadith Number: 357
اخبرنا محمد بن كثير، عن ابن شوذب، عن مطر: ولقد يسرنا القرءان للذكر فهل من مدكر سورة القمر آية 17، قال: "هل من طالب خير فيعان عليه؟"..
Matar al-Warraq said: The noble verse: «﴿وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ﴾» [القمر: 17/54] means: There is a seeker of good who is to be aided and helped.

واخبرنا مروان، عن ضمرة، قال:"طالب علم"..
It is narrated from Marwan that Dumrah said: By this «(مُدَّكِّر)» is meant a student of knowledge.
