It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At one time I intended to order a man to lead the people in prayer, and then order (some men) concerning those who do not join us for Jumu'ah, that their houses be set on fire."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of Laylat al-Jinn, two men among them stayed behind and said, "We will perform the Fajr prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me, "Abdullah! Do you have water with you?" He replied, "I do not have water, but I do have nabidh in a vessel." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is pure dates and it is purifying as well." Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution with it.

Qasim narrates from his father that once Walid bin Uqbah delayed the prayer. Seeing this, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, gave the iqamah, and led the people in prayer. Walid sent a message to him asking,“Why did you do this? Have you received any order from the Commander of the Faithful regarding this matter, or have you invented something new?”He replied,“Neither have I received any order from the Commander of the Faithful, nor have I invented anything new. But Allah and His Messenger do not want us to wait for you for our prayer while you are busy with your own affairs.”

Once we said: O Messenger of Allah! Should we not get ourselves castrated? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from doing so. Then he recited this verse: «﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُحَرِّمُوا طَيِّبَاتِ مَا أَحَلَّ اللّٰهُ لَكُمْ . . .﴾» [المائدة: 87] "O you who believe!
