Hadith of Abu Umamah al-Bahili
Hadith Number: 22266
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the mosque when a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed a sin, so punish me according to the Book of Allah." In the meantime, the prayer was established, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer. After finishing, when he was about to leave, that man followed him, and I also followed behind him. The man repeated his statement. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Is it not the case that you left your house after performing ablution well and joined us in prayer?" He replied, "Yes, indeed." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then Allah has forgiven your sin."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a Muslim servant hears the call to prayer and stands up for ablution, then as soon as the first drop of water falls on his hands, his sins begin to be forgiven. When he rinses his mouth, puts water into his nose, and cleans his nose, the sins of his tongue and lips are removed with the first drop of water. When he washes his face, the sins of his eyes and ears are removed with the first drop of water. And when he washes his hands up to the elbows and his feet up to the ankles, all his previous dangerous sins are forgiven, and he becomes as free from sin as he was at the time of his birth. And when he stands for prayer, it becomes a means of raising his ranks, and if he sits, he sits forgiven.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the day of Jumu'ah, the angels come and sit at the doors of the mosques and record the names of those who come first, second, and third. When the Imam comes out, the registers are closed. The narrator asked, "O Abu Umamah! Do those who join the Jumu'ah after the Imam has come out receive no reward?" He replied, "Why not? But their names are not written in those registers."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to me, he always instructed me to use the miswak, to the extent that I feared I would scrape off the front part of my mouth.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Love is from Allah and fame comes from the sky. Thus, when Allah loves a servant, He says to Jibreel (peace be upon him): "I love such-and-such person, so you also love him." Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) announces: "Allah loves such-and-such person, so you also love him." Then this love is placed in the hearts of the people of the earth. And when Allah dislikes a servant, He says to Jibreel (peace be upon him): "I dislike such-and-such person, so you also dislike him." Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) announces: "Your Lord dislikes such-and-such person, so you also dislike him." Thus, his dislike settles in the hearts of the people of the earth.

Abu Muslim says that once I went to Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) and he was sitting in the mosque, picking out lice and putting them into pebbles. I said to him, "O Abu Umamah! A man has told me regarding you that you say: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say that whoever performs ablution well, washes his hands and face, wipes his head and ears, then stands for the obligatory prayer, then on that day his sins will be forgiven—those to which he walked with his feet, those he committed with his hands, those his ears heard, those his eyes saw, and those thoughts that occurred in his heart?" He replied, "By Allah! I have heard this hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) so many times that I cannot count."
