Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us, thirty horsemen, on an expedition. We camped near a settlement of an Arab tribe. We requested hospitality from them, but they refused. The narrator states: The chief of the tribe was bitten (by a poisonous creature). They came to us and asked: "Is there anyone among you who can perform ruqyah (incantation) for a scorpion bite?" The narrator states: I replied, "Yes, I can, but I will not do it unless you pay us (a compensation)." They said, "We will give you thirty goats (as compensation)." The narrator says: I recited Surah Al-Fatihah seven times over that person and performed ruqyah, and he was cured. When we received the goats, we felt some hesitation about it, so we did not consume the meat of those goats. Then, when we presented ourselves before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this matter to him, he asked: "How did you know that it (Surah Al-Fatihah) can be used for ruqyah?" (I replied: You had informed us.) So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Distribute them among yourselves and keep my share with you as well."

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to an Arab tribe, but those people did not show them any hospitality. Meanwhile, the chief of those people was bitten by (a poisonous creature). They asked, "Do you have any remedy for this or anyone who can perform ruqyah?" The companions replied, "You did not show us any hospitality, so we will not do it, unless you pay us a fee." So they agreed on a flock of sheep as payment. Then they began to recite Surah Al-Fatihah, gathering their saliva in their mouths and applying it to the place of the bite, and the man was cured. They brought the sheep to the companions (but some of them said), "We will not use them until we ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this." They asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, and he smiled and said, "How did you know that it can be used for ruqyah? Use them, and set aside a share for me as well."

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) dispatched an expedition, of which Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) was the leader. They passed by a village whose chief had been bitten by a poisonous creature. We asked those people for food, but they refused to give us any food and did not even allow us to camp (so we camped outside the village). A man from that village passed by us and said, "O people of Arabia! Does anyone among you know how to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing)? Our chief is dying." So Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri said: I went to him and recited Surah Al-Fatihah over him as ruqyah, and he was cured. Those people sent us food and sheep. My companions and I ate the food, but my companions refused to (slaughter or eat the meat of) the sheep until we came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and informed him about this. He asked, "How did you know that it (Surah Al-Fatihah) could be used as ruqyah?" I replied, "O Messenger of Allah! This thought just came to my mind." The Prophet said, "Eat from those sheep (their meat), and give us some to eat as well."

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once, some companions were traveling somewhere when a man came before them and said,“The chief of this tribe has been bitten (by a poisonous creature); does anyone among you know how to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing)?”So, one of those companions went and performed ruqyah on the chief, on the condition that he would be given some sheep. Then he brought those sheep back to his companions, who asked him,“With what did you perform ruqyah?”He replied,“I performed ruqyah with Surah al-Fatihah.”The companions said,“You have taken compensation for Allah’s Book?”They did not take anything from what was given to them as compensation. When these people came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), they informed him,“O Messenger of Allah! He has taken compensation for Allah’s Book.”That companion also informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of what he had done (i.e., that he had performed ruqyah with Surah al-Fatihah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“How did you know that it (Surah al-Fatihah) can be used for ruqyah?”Then he said,“The thing for which you are most entitled to take compensation is Allah’s Book.”This hadith has been narrated in Sahih.
